Coach Search Options after Autry

Living in Providence I am watching their process with an established AD. Could not be more different. There is much less conjecture in the media and much less angst in the community . With Brown and URI, there is much less civic capital associated with PC.

For Syracuse, civic interest and capital centers on SU and its athletic program. First actions by the new AD are high stakes for the community and sets the course for his/her leadership tenure. The trustees will back what Blair wants to do. They cannot undermine their new leader. So we know when the negotiations stopped, Blair nixed Hodgson. Obviously, he will endeavor to hire a coach that can restore high level competitive success and he should have the confidence to rally the financial support for his decision. His job depends on it. Everything said beyond that is unfounded conjecture. But that's the fun ...

what makes you think donors aren't casuals with a lot more money lol

Not to mention our basketball alumni... Pretty clear that a lot of them have really no concept of potential good coaching candidates in the D1 landscape based on some of the comments they've posted.

Florida is a better job no question.

If this last 3 weeks has taught us anything, it's that Syracuse job is not that great of a job comparatively to a lot of other P4 programs in this new, modern NIL-era game.

It stings a bit to admit that, but there is no point in pretending anymore.

Ok, caught up with the most recent 20 pages.

I really hope Melo isn't affecting our decision.

His kid could not play in Hodgsons system & I worry he is not the difference maker the next HC needs.

I just hope it is somebody who actually knows how to coach, who gives decent even interesting interviews, can build a winning culture and can identify players with not only talent but the character you need to maximize that talent and be part of a team.

That could be GMAC or Joe Blow - just somebody who can get us out of this basketball nightmare of the last 2 years.
I don’t know Joe Blow but I will take him over Hop

We don’t “herd” cats.
Please tell me we’re not hiring a guy that goes by “Corny”

Just the last two years?? When was the last time they made the tournament?

Completely reasonable and lucid take.

As I said in the Kline thread, if one doesn't read the comments then one will be blissfully ignorant of any hate spewed online.

Why a billionaire would ever read the comments is one of life's great mysteries. It's like they seek out reasons to get aggrieved. Such juveniles.
I think we might think they have better things to do with their time, but... I think it's very human to want to know what people are thinking/saying about you. Billionairness doesn't absolve one from humanity. Makes them more human to at least be curious. And they have as much phone time as we do. "Everybody poops."

The juvenility comes when they can't parse/filter/deal with the negatives.

Lets be real, has Syracuse really ever been a "great" job?

We got lucky and hired a HOF coach who never wanted to leave which was amazing.

But generally speaking, not many folks want to uproot their lives, to go work a mid sized private university in upstate NY where it snows a lot.

If by Heimer, you need Boeheim, it's not surprising. He is the same guy who was against SU moving into the Dome, wanting to stay in Manley field house. I am pretty sure he was also against joining the Big East. He does not like any change.

Loyalty is a virtue that can be a fault. Though, as faults go, it’s one of the better ones to have.

But when that HOF coach meddles in stuff past his time in the driver's seat, are we lucky?

Cool post.

I think in addition to civic investment, though, is another factor: the program has been on a decade of decline. It is important to get this hire right, to prevent the sinking ship from taking on any additional water.

I think that's a major reason why the anxiety level is feverishly high.

The volume of posts in this thread is unbearable. Anyone else developing a thumb tendonitis from all of the scrolling lol
I woke up this morning to find out BH had 'walked away,' and then had to go back 30+ pages to find the first post about it, then forward to find out how valid that first post was and then the subsequent reactions. I'm too old for this ****.

Just to be clear as much as we love basketball, the thing that gets us to the next level is football. It’s the most important thing we have to get right

To be clear we're not talking about football. Pretty soon home game operating costs for basketball will be in the red.

If this board followed this suggestion when hiring the AD, then Lyke would be AD currently.

Totally different scenario, Lyke's reputation was already a major issue and how close she actually was to the job is severely disputed.

Yes of course it was and still can be if we get money. The dome, the melo center. Being in an area where your basically the only show in town. If they can get their act together and get money it can be a great job.
