Coach Search Options after Autry

I don’t know about any high profile assistant or high mid major coach taking this job simply because of the resources. Some of these guys are better positions where they’re at.

Does anyone know if David Zaslav, the head of Warner Bros Discovery, gives money to SU Athletics? He’s on the board of trustees, and I never hear his name come up. He’s insanely wealthy, and is now poised for another huge payout. Everyone in Hollywood hates him for his role in the ongoing destruction of the industry and the labor force there due to continued corporate consolidation. He’s more of a banker than a studio head. Anyhow it’s not like we don’t have insanely wealthy alumni who are Syracuse stakeholders.

I dont necessarily disagree and SU is more then willing to make the salary commitments needed. Issue is the outside NIL money, you cant break the cycle with IOUs or state bailouts, its gotta come from somewhere and right now it doesn't exist.
So as far as Hogdson, when we were told it was a salary issue only, and nothing to do with NIL, was false?

I mentioned that above both brothers changed and leaned heavily into offense the last two years. Why? No clue I would ask in the interview. Its almost like they got some coaching together from someone.

Sure seems like he could fund basketball each year. Haha.

Murray was with Hurley, at least partially, at URI & Wagner.

Was his impact on the offense as pronounced at those places? If not, did he learn his system while under Mack at Xavier and Louisville? Maybe Mack is more appealing than we think?

He's about to be worth a cool billion. His fortune will throw off about $80M per year in returns. He could fund football and basketball without breaking a sweat.

My pipe dream would be a few of these guys who are 'Cuse alums getting together and seeding an NIL endowment. Get a few hundred million in there, spend no more than half its annual returns and let it grow.

Earlier someone said we don't have many big money alumni, and I mentioned some in the entertainment industry, among other industries and this is one of them I was thinking about. There are quite a few. Some pretty famous people also graduated from SU. You just don't hear a lot about those who are not as famous.

I left one of my ideas out of my post. Turn Midnight Madness into a bigger deal, put it at an optimal time, and sell all the tickets to it to an NIL fund for $1 each. The fund can re-sell them at a profit and use that money for NIL.

If that works and is feasible, then do it for a break the record night each year. Could probably raise ~$1M a pop that way. Or, more accurately, redirect $1M a pop from the Athletic Department to NIL.

Is it a super gray area? Absolutely. But why can't a university sell tickets to whoever it wants at whatever price it wants?

Through creative stuff like this and in my earlier post, the university can move a few million a year from the Athletic Department to NIL. Sounds like that might bridge the gap.

One of my favorite past times is spending other people's money for them :) Love the pipe dream! Passion and interest are here on syracusefan wish we had a Marc Cuban who loves cuse athletics as much as he loves the hoosiers!

I assume rev share is not our problem. There’s a cap on it, right? I’d think any serious programs are maxing out the rev share every year. It’s the outside NIL money we need.
That’s a problem if they have a revenue problem. This is new $20 million hit to their annual budget is on top of their annual expenses. If revenue crashes where do you they will get the money? NIL is another entirely different topic.

We have a lot of successful alums, but it appears most of the uber wealthy ones aren’t all that interested in sports. Or maybe we’ve just done a poor job keeping them connected to the school? That said isn’t Zaslav on the BOT at some level? Maybe he’s just a nerd.

Is revenue expected to crash? I know attendance was down, but a program that has been operating in the black as long as SU has should have a war chest saved up… I hope.

If we can’t can’t max out the rev share between football and basketball, just pack it up. It’s been a nice 100 years or whatever.
