The difference is that Gerry has shown he can coach D1 basketball well.

Nothing is guaranteed and he could definitely fail. But we know more about him than we knew about Red. The similarities are surface-level, at most.

Exactly! I've met Red a few times. GREAT guy, but nothing ever screamed HC to me. IMO, he lacks the innate intensity and fire that most head coaches use as fuel. Red seems to be more of a beta personality, great for asst. coaches, but the great head coaches are demonstrably alpha personalities. I actually see those traits in GMac...hopefully, he can parlay them into a 5 seed next year.

My god I hope he wins, because if the ESPN article is true and he is getting top 3rd ACC NIL money that puts you over 10 million a year roster, you dont get a year of breaking into the job with that kind of money, he doesnt make the tourney in year 1 with that investment, support for the team will be rock bottom.

Yup my stance has always been money doesn't = success and just because we have money doesn't mean the best of the best will want to come and play at Syracuse and for GMac. On a national scale we have been down for so long it will take winning to get the best of the best to come. It will tell me alot what kind of roster he is able to bring in. Doty and Anthony will be on the roster after that; who knows.

As a season ticket holder for Siena, I've watched every home game up close. Gerry has definitely evolved, but if he doesn't hire an offensive savant, lord help us all.

With proper NIL, he will get the players, but he needs to hire the right coaches for creativity. The Duke game was great, but Siena had some games that the team really struggled.

He ran a lot of ISO and needs to blow up his playbook and start from scratch. Hopefully he does that. The MAAC is not P4.

Even if he's a better coach than red, doing the same thing and hoping for a different result.

The thing to feel good about is that Gerry will allegedly have a lot of Nil to work with. Money BH wouldn't have had.
