So Doty has the ability to play at this level and Folefac too. His size an skillset makes him a worthy bench piece. That’s it though and it’s more who they are than where they played. They showed they belonged vs Duke which is as much as you can ask for trying to evaluate a lower level school txfr.

I don't know. Folefac reminds me of Jyare Davis. Maybe a good bench piece in the ACC?

If everything was the exact same as far as resumes, etc - but it was 2012 and NIL didn’t exist…would we have hired GMac over everyone else? Or is the GMac just to the slam dunk NIL/Booster hire?

This just feels so icky to me. Not like red and Gerry got along great, but this feels like marrying your friends ex wife. Hey it didn’t work out with this guy so let’s go to the next closest thing. This was lazy all there is to it. And like I said all along - THERE WAS NO WAY THEY WERE GOING TO PAY FOR A GREAT COACH.

I’m also annoyed that JB was so involved. It’s ridiculous. No one had any guts. It cost them Hodgson because of him.

With that being said, it probably means a lot to Gerry and his family and I’ll support as much as possible. Congrats to him. Blackwell coming with him unless Siena makes a big offer. Let’s get to work

I'll just say this. Everyone I've talked to is positive about it. Family, friends, etc. Most of them never heard the name Hodgson or Schertz even after all this. That's even with me explaining who they are. They didn't even know South Florida and St Louis had basketball teams ha.

That’s exactly right. People who don’t actually follow basketball (not referring to anyone on this board, but to more casual fans) will love this. They know GMac and like him. If they know anything about his coaching it’s from the Duke game. I’m sure we’ll put 25,000 or so in the Dome for the first few games. But that’s a shortsighted reason to hire a coach. If we lose a couple early, the attendance will drop back to current levels. Folks don’t attend games with a disappointing record to watch the coach.

IF GMac to Cuse gets done and he brings Doty.. keeps KA and maybe 1 or 2 more.. We need someone that can hit 3's, a PG that can get into the lane and some type of interior D presence.. wouldnt mind a 4 that can hit an 18 footer either... I figure we need atleast 3 mid to high level guys to get us to the Tourney next year.

I love white. He needs about 20-25 more lbs but he was developing a nice baby hook and plays tough defense. He is the most like Gmac on this team. Second is kings.

Congrats to Gmac. I hope he does great.
But it's really disappointing that our program (once great program) could not attract a proven winner currently with a P5 school to take this job. Says a lot.

The problem with proven P5 winners is they’re expensive and they’re usually already at their ceiling. Guys finishing in the top 5 of a P5 conference aren’t usually looking for other jobs, so you’d be hiring dudes whose ceiling might be middle-of-the-pack P5. Better to take a swing on a younger up and coming coach and hope you hit gold.

Bob, that is why this hire is more important to me and you. We don't have the time to screw around. I figure I have 15 NCAA tournaments left or there about. I can't go 5 years without making the tournament again. And neither can you.

Unfortunately It would be nice I guess to get to 95 my mother did but not realistic. I really would like to see Syracuse relevant again in both football, and basketball like the 80's . I wanted JB gone after the 2nd probation, and he should have been. By now we could have been back.

Boeheim better keep his mouth shut moving forward (he won't lol), but also showing up to games. I know the ACC Network stuff, but let's be real he showed up the bare minimum for Autry. This is beyond unprecedented the way he is getting this job. Any outsider had no chance once GMAC started having success he had in March. Boeheim and the family were not going to let that happen and by that, no outsider would dare to come here. Why would a basketball coach want to deal with the political environment that has been created here. I hope GMAC proves those who didn’t give him the nod 3 years ago wrong and returns Syracuse to national prominence!
