From reading the Raptors RealGM board it is still possible that Cole Swider comes back to the Raptors this year.
The reason they waived Swider and Orlando Robinson was for flexibility reasons.
It gives them flexibility to now re-sign two players, who could be Swider and Robinson, for contracts for the rest of this season + a partial guarantee for next year. There are a few other players who are being considered.
Without waiving Swider or Robinson, they could not give them a partial guaranteed contract for next year. Don't ask me the why's -- just the way contracts work from what I read.
They signed Swider for the rest of the season.
And they waived him today. I follow the Raptors more than the Orange, so I'm pretty up to date on what they are doing.
1. They signed him for the rest of the season on Monday.
2. They waived him today, but it could result in him or another player coming back beyond this year.
Sure hope he gets the chance.
Wonder if Austin Reaves leaving the Lakers improves Swider’s opportunity?cole swider is a summer league legend. i’m not sure how he hasn’t gotten legit opportunities yet. i watch the lakers A LOT and they could at least use him a few minutes a night. that tells me other teams can as well.
also off topic but seeing bazley in the summer league is oddly satisfying.
austin isn’t getting traded :/. i think regardless he is a guy that could be there 14 or 15 guy and show up on the court.Wonder if Austin Reaves leaving the Lakers improves Swider’s opportunity?

Bazley made his $, but he potentially left a lot more on the table. I read an article where Bazley implied that he was young and made some bad decisions that took away his opportunity to play college ball. Regrets, partially and after the fact when it doesn’t work out the way you expected it to.Bazley made his $, whether we like it or not, it was the right decision for him
How? I’m asking because I do not see anything that they bring to the table other than being knock down shooters. Where does one have an edge over the other?Cole is better than Knecht.

20 pts on 7-10 shootingSwider is about 4 inches taller and can rebound.
He would be best served proving that he can. I don't think any team has any questions about his shooting skills, but he does need to show other things. That him and Knecht had the same number of rebounds today doesn't help, even with Swider's domination of scoring. If he can show enough D, enough rebs, enough ballhandling, he gets to the league, otherwise dweebs like Sam Hauser make $10M, and he is not that different of a player to be making that kind of money while Swider is in the G-League. There are several like him too.Swider is about 4 inches taller and can rebound.

Those are G League numbers. When he is called up and gets playing time, what are his rebound numbers like? Defense? He averaged 6 rebounds a game in the G League last year, and averaged 8.6 a few years ago. That's not bad.
