Colorado fires Karl Dorrell / hires Deion Sanders

I guess I'm in the minority here, because I don't see Sanders having a lot of success at Colorado. There's a LOT more to being a HC at a P5 school than recruiting (look at Miami). Colorado's fortunes have nowhere to go but up, but Sanders' charisma will only take him so far. Isn't the board wisdom that players today don't really care about someone who played before they were born?

Clearly that's not the case when the guy pulled the #1 RECRUIT IN THE NATION

He is going to bring in a ton of talent there, and will do really well, especially after USC and UCLA leave

He’s already announced his son as the new QB.

2025? I hope he chose the SCHOOL and not the coach. Tenure of the last 4 Colorado head coaches: 1 year, 5 years, 1 year, 2 years.

Main question for me is Shadeur good enough to be a starter at a P5 school? Thought USF was the perfect move for him to level up. This could be too aggressive for bother father and son.

chugg21: Did you ever watch his son play? He's very, very good and will take him and other players from JS including the 5 star receiver his son was throwing to this year that helped win his conference with him.

Never doubt his charisma and personality. He will have players and coaches coming to CU and make it a gold mine.

He's got players committing already.

$5 million and he'll put in all the work to make it a place recruits want to be.

Good for Prime!

He was great as a player in two sports and in the HOF.

Great as a coach at Jackson State.

And now the HC at a P5 school that needed help and he will help a great school again.

When CU was in their heyday they made a living on Texas and California kids. I can’t wait to see what he does there. Wish we’d had a chance to hire him.

Another thing about Prime- he was a celebrity long before CU and will still be after CU. Kids playing today KNOW who Deion is- he's not just some fossil from days gone by. He has the gumption to come in and truly do it his way. The honeymoon may be a couple of years, but if he gets the right assistants and brings the 'tude and swag from that press conference, he'll be a success.

Ruthless!!

Sorry of posted but DAMN Sanders basically telling the whole team to hit the portal because he is bring his” baggage “ with him.
Man’s got a plan, Colorado fans should be very excited. I’d love to see Colorado consistently good again.

He has made Colorado relevant overnight. And for a school like that you can't put a price on that.

Not sure he wins big there. It's a horrible job in a now bad conference, but he will get good players, have them be in the mix in the USC/UCLA-less Pac 12 and have them in the national conversation weekly as everyone will want to know "what did Deion and Colorado do this weekend?"

There won't be many players on that team currently that will make it, but the ones that do are going to learn incredible life skills.

A lot of people are going to hate Prime, but he's straight up and he's going to hold you accountable to the investment that's being made into you.

I just watched the intro press conference. Call him cocky or whatever, but this is the guy. He’s been the man in the league, he’s a no nonsense guy and they are going to be good. Maybe not right away but kids want to play for a guy that has been there at the peak of the sport. It’s going to be fun to watch and I give him credit, the world is watching

Why is it a horrible job?

HS football in Colorado is bad, can't recruit in state and get talent. Must fight in neighboring states like California and Arizona for talent where there are powerhouses in your conference grabbing all of the top talent. You get the left overs. The stadium is old, they just built a new football facility but that's about it. The Pac 12 with UCLA and USC gone stinks. And the football program is at the bottom of that bad conference.

He will make them better but their ceiling may be 3rd or 4th place at best each year behind Washington, Utah, and Oregon in the Pac 12. Never truly competing with them. And oh yeah, Washington and Oregon may bolt to the Big 10 if/when the Big 10 comes calling making the conference and job even worse.

Here is what I'll say re all of this bc I don't know if Deion will succeed or not, but this is a university embracing the den of mayhem that is now NCAAF.

They have been AWFUL.

Deion will bring in 15-20 high level transfers, get a number of immediate 4 and 5 star commits this year to flip and start hyping 5 star verbals from 24 and 25 guys.

You will see the whole process curated and distributed on social media.

And, Deion's contract is VERY friendly to CU.

One thing as well, if Deion has even moderate success at Colorado, in 2 years he will bolt and take a bigger job. There is no long term plan here. They are 100% using each other. CU gets some attention and can be relevant for 2 years. And Deion can use this as a spring board for a bigger job. Deion won't be there for 4 or 5 years chasing a Pac 12 Championship that's for sure

Believe this helps him

Deion will recruit. I remember Colorado being a great program when I was a kid.

His contract reflects what you're saying. It's a good gamble for both sides.
