Cuffe can’t at least split minutes with Taylor?

Really confused. Some on this board wanted to run Judah out of town in favor of a pass first point guard. Over his last 5 games, including a terrible performance against Maryland, Carlos is averaging over 7 assists and less than 2 TOs per game. And if this team could shoot the ball and convert a few more passes he would easily have an additional 2-3 apg.

Wish he were more of a threat to score (although in this same 5 he is just under 10 ppg) but I don’t consider that level of performance to be “awful” or “not a P5 PG.
His jersey will never hang from the rafters but Carlos is far from the worst problem this team has.
You’re quoting a post from November. He’s been better since then but definitely not a world beater. He plays better against lower level teams like Bucknell.

Doesn’t matter, we struggle with all, P5, low and high mid-majors, can't be choosy where he plays

Don’t think the criticism has abated much since then. Been biting my tongue on this for a while!

If assists were all that mattered, he’d be fine, but his defense is a turnstile, he doesn’t have the strength to fight through screens, he’s not an offensive threat other than passing. Which makes him a one dimensional player and is easily taken out of the game by an opponent. Give him a team with a real wing, 2-guard, and center who can play defense, an offense and defensive plan, and he’d be better. But he’s still too 1-dimensional.

I like Cuffe. I'd like to see him play more.

Interesting to see that a lot of his time yesterday came playing alongside Carlos. More evidence that the staff views him as a scoring guard, not a point.

The season is already lost. The mid major portal guys didn't work out. Hopefully, Red will recognize this after a few ACC losses, and primarily play the guys who we want to develop and return next season. The 2 mainly are Freeman and Choppa. Westry should play some even if he is awful so that he can get back into the swing of things. Cuffe should also get a lot of minutes, that is unless Coach is quietly showing him the door.

Being that the portal will be a big part of building the roster going forward, let's hope that this year's disaster will have helped our coaches in learning how to evaluate mid-major talent and prioritize (NIL $$$) P5 portal talent, especially at the point guard position.

But you would not have been able to quote those assist numbers in November.

Biting long enough for your view to make sense.
I dont mind Carlos, hes a solid back up point guard at this level.
But take a look at his stats against tough opponents...4pt 3 asst in 40 min...against almost all p5.
12 pts 12 assts in 37 min against Albany etc...

I think the real discussion was why is Carlos averaging 34+ min/game when others have produced in very limited action.
Without JJ everything changed so whatever.

Kyle Cuffe - last 5 games:
  • 13.2 minutes a game
  • 6 pts per game
  • 10-24 from the field (41.6%)
  • 5-14 from three (35.7%)
  • 5-8 FTs (62.5%)
  • 2 steals, 2 assists, 5 turnovers (avg. 1 per game, but 3 in one game, only 2 in the other 4)

You can't flip a whole roster every year.
I would like to see obviously Donnie & Moore, but also Petar and Cuffe get good minutes.
Those 2 guys are good enough to be rotation players next year.
