This has zero to do with Angeli. Less than zero. But when information isn't known, we sometimes invent our own reasons to make something make sense. That is normal. Once again, this has nothing to do with Angeli. And this also has nothing to do with how Steve is doing. I have no idea on that.I certainly think the people penciling him in are getting ahead of themselves. Even if he gets cleared, the thing with this injury is that athletes aren’t back to their prior level of play until 12 - 18 months.
The Rebels it is
If we were truly paying him 0 NIL then we should pack it up because that is absolutely crazy.Gill had 7 figure offers on the table almost from day one of the portal. Ohio State was late to the game. He was already down to his final 3 earlier this week, all with 7 figure offers. His final 3 were Ol Miss, Oregon and Washington. He turned down Indiana, Louisville and Michigan among others. He had also been contacted by QBs in the portal to see if they could go someplace together.
He was asked back by Fran, and everything was great but during another conversation with Fran a couple of days later, Fran started saying very bad things about Darrell. This was after Gill asked how to better prepare for the NFL and how could Fran help him to prepare. I don't know if Fran didn't like the question, but all of a sudden he said terrible things to Darrell. The horrible comments were repeated by Fran to a family member, and then before entering the transfer portal Darrell hired his agent, and asked the agent to call Fran. The agent confirmed that Fran said terrible things about him, and never heard such vile language from a college coach about one of their players. Darrell had no idea what set this off, but felt very disrespected by his coach, and that is why he left.
We were paying him zero NIL, but even last year he had offers and came back to Syracuse with no NIL money. Nixon and the assistants were calling him almost daily, but not a word from Fran Brown. Fran basically ruined Gill coming back.
I still hope Fran works out. But others have told me they have heard similar stories regarding other players on our team. Fran needs to learn how to operate with a little more tact.
And that is the story in a very condensed version. I am leaving out all that was said. But hopefully this explains why Darrell loves SU and wanted to stay at SU, and also all of the comments about money or the "bag" were just not true. But in the end, I guess he really found out his worth. Because he never found out his worth at SU.
A lot of our players don't get anything. It seems NIL is used to bring players in. The Babers players never had that chance. He did get that profit sharing thing with the school this year, but not NIL money. Eventually that probably won't be a problem. Anyone decent will have come in as a freshman or through the portal and will get paid.If we were truly paying him 0 NIL then we should pack it up because that is absolutely crazy.
I knew a lot didn’t but a wide receiver like gill should be paid close to 300-500k here, not getting any money at all just doesn’t not make any sense to me.A lot of our players don't get anything. Thanks for the info. Quick question, are you saying that he was prepared to turn down 7 figure offers for Cuse, even though he didn’t get the extra NIL money all because Fran cursed him out?Gill had 7 figure offers on the table almost from day one of the portal. No I’m sure he was getting paid from the revenue pool. I think that means he didn’t have an endorsement package on top of the allocation. If we were truly paying him 0 NIL then we should pack it up because that is absolutely crazy.
Oh ok I misread I was gonna say 0 money at all made me question a lot with the school for a second. No I’m sure he was getting paid from the revenue pool. I think that means he didn’t have an endorsement package on top of the allocation.
It was a lot more than Fran cursing him out. I just don't want to repeat everything that was said. It is not good stuff. And before the 7 figure offers, he was fine at SU. Once the offers starting coming, in then I am sure SU would have had to pay him to stay. And he had the agent confirm that he was not crazy. He told her he did not want to go into the portal and to please call Fran and see if Fran was sorry for all that was said. Thanks for the info. Well this sounds to me Fran wanted him gone. I’ve said before and you see it based on mainly the upperclassmen leaving to the portal, I don’t think he liked how many the older players on the team handled the Angeli injury situation. How, I don’t know, but just look on who was prioritized to stay in the program. He’s preached this before, but he expects a lot more from the older guys who are on his team more than what you can produce on the field. He wants tough leaders.

Now that you have said this i will come out and say i have heard similar things, first hand, on 2Gill had 7 figure offers on the table almost from day one of the portal. No I don’t blame Gill for any of this either. Happy he found a good landing spot and to see how much he was wanted in the portal. It’s just a read on how I think Fran is operating the program. I don’t know if it will work, but I don’t know why we are shocked when Fran says he is a tough and demanding coach that he is a tough and demanding coach and if he senses that your not with him, he probably doesn’t want you with him. Everyone here wants to win and Fran needs his guys to be on the same page as him on how in order to win and that is who is getting prioritized when it comes to who he wants in his program.Yeah I don't think we should be blaming Gill for any of this.
I think we all know after this season that Fran needs to grow quite a bit, and a lot of that is Situational awareness, both on and off the field, I think that's his biggest shortcoming as of now, the coaching problems, his interactions with reporters, this whole debacle, a lot of it can be traced back to situational awareness and how he needs to learn how to handle things when they start to go wrong.
Make no mistake, I still believe in Fran, but I'm not going to act like it's been all peaches and roses, especially not as of recently.
