In all the defense did pretty good considering the offense kept handcuffing them. The one thing I can't figure out is why they are forcing Ron Thompson to play inside? Granted it's not all the time, and he does his best despite being out-weighed by 50lbs, but there were a couple of occasions where he was just totally absorbed by the much bigger offensive line. He is the most dynamic player we have on that side of the ball. He gives you that quickness off the edge that we so desperately need. Same goes for Isiah Johnson. Thankfully it looks like they have realized he is much better coming off the edge. The kid is always seems to be making plays, but he is only out there at DE for a couple handful of plays, if that. So my question is why don't these 2 play? Welsh does absolutely nothing out there. Every now and again someone will run into him and he will make a play, but that happens few and far between. Robinson isn't much more productive. Neither even attempt a swim move, a spin, nothing, but the bull rush that usually doesn't get too far. Does Bullough think they owe them something? What happened to playing your best players? It's clear as day that both Thompson and Johnson are our best ends, who cares that they are younger. Being able to create an organic pass rush would really help alleviate some of the pressure on our secondary without forcing Lynch and Davis to blitz basically every play.

I am the only ones who thinks this?

I agree especially since wayne Williams and crume should be getting most time at dt

Exactly. The 1 play I specifically remember was when Thompson was inside and the guard basically tossed him down and sat on him. At least Wayne is very effective against the run. He's not going anywhere. He is like a big anchor that clogs everything up.

no you're not the only one. welsh consistently takes horrible angles and never keeps contain. he is also the worst about unnecessary celebration. Good QBs shred us when we blitz so much (there will be a great example this weekend). i always think about that USF game during the 2010 season when shafe was the D coordinator that BJ Daniels blatantly missed 3 guys who were wide open 30 yards downfield. if he wasn't so bad we would have lost by a couple of scores. we're not playing a lot of BJ daniels these days and we need to generate more pressure from our front four

i would rather see micah inside than sugar bear anyway if they are worried about the rotation at d tackle. Thompson may do a better job in practice because he is a better player, but he would be an impact player on the edge

Now that Raymon is back , the rotations should be Williams, Raymon, Crume inside, with Thompson, Johnson , and some of Welch and Robinson. Williams, Raymon, Thompson, and Johnson are the future, and it needs to start now. Offensively we need to get all the young receivers into the games this season, not next year. Ishmael, Custis, Enoicy all need the game experience, so we don't start over next year with new guys. Those 3 along with Parris, Moore, Lewis will be a big upgrade over the people we are running out there now.

I think the defensive line has more than done their job. I don't see any reason to criticize their play. I know there was point where they held Looiusville to 1 yard in 5 consecutive series. That should have been enough to lead to some points for the offense but of course it didn't. As good as the defense is the offense is that bad.

Because of our lack of pressure we are forced to blitz are LB's virtually every play. Welsh doesn't do anything, and when the seldom occasion occurs he celebrates like he just won the Super Bowl. Thompson and Johnson are the future, and always seem to be around the quarterback. If it will improve the team then why settle for less?
