Think he's too valuable to be returning kicks.
We can put Kerr back there. He can take a 10 yard loss on every punt return.

Naw we gotta use him to his fullest. He wants that and we need talented athletes returning kicksThink he's too valuable to be returning kicks.
Agreed but he needs the ball in his hands especially on offense.Think he's too valuable to be returning kicks.

TrueThen we’re gonna have to use him for jet sweeps,
because we can’t put the ball in anybody’s hands if it’s not a handoff.
Let’s hope
I've never understood this take. Did we think this with Marvin Harrison or Quinton Spotwood? Did Michigan think it with Desmond Howard or Charles Woodson? Did Alabama think it with Devonta Smith?Think he's too valuable to be returning kicks.
Alabama did this with Jaylen waddle and he was out for the whole year after getting hurt.I've never understood this take. Did we think this with Marvin Harrison or Quinton Spotwood? Did Michigan think it with Desmond Howard or Charles Woodson? Did Alabama think it with Devonta Smith?
Playmakers have to be on the field to make plays, and special team returns are the place where you can guarantee your playmaker gets the ball with the chance to make a play.
Quinton Spotwood got hurt catching a pass and was out fr the whole year. Should we not have used him at WR? Should we have told Angeli not to scramble? That's when he got hurt. It's football. Guys can get hurt on any play.Alabama did this with Jaylen waddle and he was out for the whole year after getting hurt.
I understood your take, but respectfully disagree. I don't think the benefits outweigh the cons of him getting crushed on a return and the team losing their best DB. There are other guys who can return kicks, such as Tyliek Hill, who's done a nice job. It probably doesn't matter as much this year, but don't think it's worth the gamble next season when we can be really goodI've never understood this take. I would be worried about him getting crushed if he wasa little guy, but he's got good size. And he has some control over when he gets hit. He could also get hurt by getting pancaked by an olineman while trying to cover a screen pass. Football has risks.I understood your take, but respectfully disagree. I understand what you are saying. He could slip in the shower and get hurt as well. A punt returner standing flat footed waiting for punt to fall from the sky with a mad 240 lb bench lb bearing down on him to show the coach he should be a starter is highly dangerous. My thought is does the risk outweigh the reward? The chances of Samuel breaking one are slim and we have other hungry young guys that need to get on the field. One of the last qb's in the pros to play special teams was Joe Theisman. No Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson fielding punts or playing special teams either. They are pretty special athletes though.I would be worried about him getting crushed if he wasa little guy, but he's got good size. And he has some control over when he gets hit. Didn’t Robert pena say he was coming back too? Hard to trust anyone’s word these days when a larger bag could be lurking just around the corner.

I hear ya. I just hope all these guys that are saying this don't complain if he ends up getting injured on a return when we have other guys who could do itFran has made a point to let everyone know that he is not afraid to play his best players on special teams. This is a way for them to make an NFL team if they are fringe and gives them advantage.
Having more players in the NFL is a huge recruiting advantage.
I love the move.
I want my best players on the field as much as possible.
IIRC during the glory days of Mac & P, we sued a lot of starters on special teams and our special teams were elite.!Fran has made a point to let everyone know that he is not afraid to play his best players on special teams. Looks like Pena’s really filled up the stat sheets at PSU this year. Maybe i’ll send him some linkedin and resumé tips.Until he saw Collins…

Yep glad he tucked tail and went where the grass is greener, and more morally deprived. Collins has been horrible but the board’s being overly nostalgic thinking Pena would’ve gotten the same target share this year with Gill breaking out, Villari turning into a draft caliber TE, and JRS/Cook in the fold. Good college receiver surrounded by NFL talent.Still yet to have a 100 yard game there.
Woof.
Yeah. I listed some in an earlier post. Other teams do it too, includng the factories. It's not uncommon.IIRC during the glory days of Mac & P, we sued a lot of starters on special teams and our special teams were elite.!
True dat. And he had a lack of faith in Fran not solving the problem, which Fran did (until the bad luck injury).Looks like Pena’s really filled up the stat sheets at PSU this year. Maybe i’ll send him some linkedin and resumé tips.
