DC's name gets mentioned kind of a lot as a future member of the coaching staff (more recently as a replacement for Fine) but I don't know why.
He has no coaching experience. Has he ever expressed that he wants to coach? Has he ever been considered for a job with the team?
He's obviously a huge supporter of the team but I'm not clear why that makes him a potential coach.

as far as I'm concerned he is not -- Herman Harried would be an excellent addition

I couldn't imagine DC on the sideline. That is a bad mix. He does well as a supporter from his seats on the baseline. On

What makes Gerry McNamara a coach? He never coached before, and he doesn't have the greatest communication skills. Why was he hired? Because he was a great player, he won at the highest level and he knows how we do things in the program.

Derrick offers all of that, plus legimitate NBA skills to teach young centers the tricks of the trade from a guy who had a long pro career despite health problems.

I dont think GMac should be a coach at Syracuse yet ... would have liked to see him do the Paulus thing (Navy, OSU)

I don't think he would have beaten out Braxton miller for the starting job :)

Wouldn't be surprised to see Gerry finding a spot on Murph's bench soon.

The difference between GMac and DC ... GMac wants to be a coach. DC doesn't.

I can see Jake Presutti becoming an assistant at EMU before Gerry.

I occasionally work with DC's cousin who talks a lot of SU bball with me. Next time that I see him I'll ask him if DC has ever expressed any interest in coaching or not.

God save the first ref who makes a call that DC takes exception to.
