We lack so much detail in so many areas. I just hope the coach after JB is more detail oriented and stresses the little things. To have a player go wildly out of control down three with fifty seconds left is a common occurrence. Happened in the UNC game but just later towards the end. Have a set where the defense is forced to actually guard you. Why the hell is Tyler Roberson setting the ball screen for Cooney instead of Lydon who is a major Pick and Pop threat. It's just things like that where you scratch your head and you're like REALLY?! Do they not practice end of game situations? Do we not have end of game sets rather than 30 foot heaves over 7'3 players.

Actually the zone cost them this game

Prob 8 easy 6-8 footers that are not created by the offense but rather the defense.

And then when the Orange got a 7 point lead they gave up three consecutive wide open three pointers spanning halftime that had nothing to do with successful offense but rather benign defense

Just to reiterate a long time painful point, even two guys "standing in the vicinity" of a player within 25 feet is not "guarding" that player. The three at the end of the half was downright embarrassing and an indictment of the strategy.

The zone is what he runs. I dont even yell about that anymore like I did in the beginning of the season. His offensive detail and late game execution on that end is soooo poor. Watching the end of that game between JB and Hamilton was just flat out BAD. Both teams had no structure or execution down the stretch. Syracuse pressed extremely well in the half court and full court. Sprinkling that in after timeouts or when the team looks sluggish would be smart.

The Malachi coast to coast spaz out and the Cooney heavily contested 25 footer with 20 seconds left spaz out...both when down by 3 points. Absolutely ridiculous at this level of basketball. We have NO savvy whatsoever. Zero.

Boeheims YMCA pick-up basketball offense ain't gonna do it. Not much brainpower in evidence in the second halves of games last year and this year. 5 pieces that never solved the puzzle.

I truly do not understand the roles Lydon and Roberson were playing in our offense. Why in Gods name was Roberson catching the ball at the 3 point line? Ever?!?

I've been a Cooney supporter when a lot of others on here bash him. He had a terrible game today and there has been too many of them lately. Heck, Joseph couldn't do any worse.

I also didn't like Malachi's banzai rush down the court late, but will give him some slack considering he is a freshman.

March is not looking too optimistic unfortunately.

Ya the Tc dribble behind the back, and try to put it up against 3 defenders pretty much summed up the day.

Must be a specific offensive set as Coleman gets the ball out there a lot as well.

Look, if he passed it, it would've been a turnover anyway...

Because Craig Forth was a great passer from there...so JB has fallen in love with our C standing out there since 2003.

Running Roberson off the high ball screens instead of Lydon is great. Only a better idea than running Baye off high ball screens.
It's as if JB repeatedly puts guys in a position that "should" be able to make a play but show they can't. Baye should have been able to catch the roll lob, but he couldn't. Roberson should be able to do something with the ball but he can't. It's almost as if JB is making some weird point.

And if Will Hicks has anything to do with the S&C of this team explains a lot, very lot. Don't expect Lydon and Richardson to put on real mass unless they do it all on their own.

lol...that Mal play would have been hilarious if it wasn't such an important moment in the game.

Every .3 seconds I was sure he was going to get it poked away from behind, but he didn't, he just kept going, going, going...I'm thinking, is somebody going to yell to him to stop, going, going, going...with each passing microsecond I'm more sure it's going to be tapped away from behind...going, going, going....ahhh, there it is. Turnover.

:( I'm inclined to give him bonus points for simply making it as far as he did with the ball.

In an awful day for Syracuse fans this made me laugh. I felt the exact way.

Watch out! Watch out! Watch out! Stop! Stop! Stopppppppp! Really!?!?!?

I really hope the offense we run, combined with playing zone, helps people understand why kids aren't going to stick around if they have any shot at the NBA.

Most people going on to the NBA are going to be role players, not superstars. Those guys need to be able to play defense and have some semblance of what to do in a complex offense.

Yes, the Carmelo types, the few and far between, will be fine no matter what. For everyone else, we are looking less and less like a a place to go to prep for the NBA.

Baye used to hit about one back door cut to Cooney a game so we will see that set until JB rides off into the sunset.

This is a good post. We do have Carmelo, but other than him, Wes is the only one who has had a decently formidable career. Other than that, it's extremely bleak. Flynn did have a solid rookie year and got hurt. You would expect to see a little more success in the NBA from a prominent program.

I yelled STOPPPPPP every time Cooney was dribbling. I was like geesh, I exude no confidence in our guys but those plays that Cooney and Richardson made at the end are the reason why! Just SOO many ridiculously stupid plays that are such low percentage.

I have never thought JB was very detailed (on offense especially) but this game really makes you scratch your head. I don't want to get even more upset than I already am.
Don't critique JB or the orange zone mafia will show up on your doorstep
