Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

It's relatively the same as it always was, but they have always struggled housing underclassmen. We had students staying in the Sheraton 20 years ago. They also want to eventually move all students onto main campus off south.

Yeah I think getting all students off of South Campus is the biggest motivator here. Curious what the plans will be for South Campus once that happens though. They still have athletic facilities there so I wouldn't think they would sell it off to developers or something like that.

I just heard the Clam Bar in N. Syracuse is closing. Don't have any details yet but my guess would be the owner wants to move south as he has spent most of the summer there doing other work. I will post more info when I get it.

Last day is this Sunday

I was on South when that happened. Always thought it would be cool to spend a semester there as a student. Not sure if they would let a Stumpie in over there, though :)

I lived on the south campus for three years back in the mid-70s. At the time there were some ESF students living there in the townhouses. They were married with children.

I don’t know where or what south campus is.

I got my MBA from SUNY Buffalo. It was a decent experience. Good price for sure. I concentrated in both Finance and IT and previously had a Finance background. One of my offers was from M&T in their executive IT program. When I asked about their executive Finance program they told me they only hired Ivy League MBAs. I declined the offer but learned first hand how many employers hire and differentiate. I went into IT with an IT company. My undergrad was from a private college. I am happy with both. Each gave me a good education and I had paid off my undergrad loans well before going to UB.

Well hopefully someone will buy it, clean it up and preserve most of the menu items especially the chicken wings.
The building is tiny, cramped. The inside really needed a facelift, old wood walls and seating - very dark. We liked going there occasionally for the food. Sad it’s closing. I used to laugh and say that Ruston’s diner and the Clam bar must be related - same decor, old wood all over, decent food but I think Ruston’s might actually be a bit bigger.

If I was in charge...I would consider an Ivy Kid but likely would prefer a kid who isn't so entitled.

Yes, I agree. It definitely needs to be renovated. I have heard a couple of rumors about what may happen - Kenny, the guy that owns the building, he also owns the Basil Leaf building, is going to sell the property. That is what one of the bartenders told me. If that happens given how valuable the property is I expect Chick Fil A to change their plans and buy that property with the Basil Leaf property and that will be the end of that.

The other rumor that one of the other bartenders is floating around is that Kenny is going to do some remodeling, reopen in 3 months with new management. He wasn't fond of this latest owner I guess.

I like Ben Walsh's thinking here. Penalize these places for a year and hope they can't recover financially. The Alpine is the 2nd one to go down, Lookers was the 1st. It's a better path than trying to change the zoning

"City officials sent Alpine’s owners a notice of default in August, claiming the club was not meeting the terms of the nuisance order. A joint inspection the following month by the state Liquor Authority and city police found the club did not have the required number of on-site security guards.

Alpine and the space it occupies must remain closed for one year, according to the closure notice."
