Devo Podcast

We basically went from Pearl to Douglas to Autry to Hart to McNamara. From 84 to 06, there was only a few seasons(one of them the extremely underrated and solid Allen Griffin senior year, and one of them the legendary Z Sims senior year) where one of them wasn’t our PG.

That’s a heck of a 20+ year run of PG play.

Much more spotty since then due largely to early entry to the NBA, but still had Flynn, MCW, and Ennis. And even though he was playing out of position because we had nobody else, you can add Gbinije too.
I’d include Scoop/Triche in there, too, as part of the very good PG play. Was Deshaun the PG in 2002? Or did he play SG?

If I recall, Deshaun was the starting PG to start the year, but then moved to the two about halfway through the year as James Thues started at PG after that.

I’d love to hear from Arinze Onuaku and hear from if at any point in the 2010 NCAA tournament would he have been available to actually play.

How long was injury going to take to heal.

He was on 2009 and 2010 teams.
2 really fun teams to talk about.
Plan is to record with AO this week! Likely dropping Thursday. Sure they will talk about that 2010 team.

Any other questions or talking points you guys would like Devo to get to? No promises we get to it, but we appreciate any feedback on the pod.

The 2009 Florida-Kansas wins in KC where the SU program made a comeback nationally. After the 2007 and 2008 missing the NCAAT years.
Would love to know how he felt about the 2007 snub what the team thought of it.

Dick Vitale really pumped AO in those games and in the Kansas game we actually switched to man to man defense to key the comeback.

AO had 2 teams that a lot of good stories could come from 2009 and 2010.

Lots to unpack in this one. I guess Dion didn’t let Triche score in practice for an entire month. Interesting nugget, but I thought playing time was based on practice.
That part was great...and Ive always known how important Hop was but man...I feel like he was legit THE reason for 99.9% of the reason kids came here and more importantly...STAYED. Our staff currently is really lacking whats needed to get and keep kids.

I took that from it as well. I’ve listened to all of them along with Mike Waters pod, every player talks about Hop during the recruiting period, I knew he played a part and a big part before, but I think he was the integral part.

It’s for that reason I think Hop is the guy when JB retires. Alums speak volumes.

Catching up on these, interesting that AO said his knee was bothering him his entire senior season
