Did Autry do a presser?

Seriously wondering what you expect a coach to say after losses? Is there anything a coach can say that would change people’s own narrative? He’s changed up the lineup, given numerous players opportunities to shine and regardless the final results have been less than favorable so what do you people expect a coach to say? Would anything he says in a post game press conference make an iota of difference to you. Let’s be honest here.
I guess ill start:

"I resign"

People's own narrative? Good lord. SU currently is an embarrassment of a P5 hoops program, one that has fallen from elite type stature and become irrelevant as fast as one can say, how's "you know" for you?

Autry makes millions of dollars to coach, he needs to own this quagmire of his. He constructed this roster. He is responsible for coaching them, incorporating strategies, etc. to give him/his team the best chance of winning. His team has no identity, no method to the madness if you will. That's 100% on him.

How about simply saying, we have to be better. It's my job to win games and maintain a high level of basketball and reputation that had been bestowed upon SU hoops for decades, play with passion, purpose, etc. And, right now, it's not happening, and, again, that's on me. Not this bogus, we are playing at a different tempo, etc. as he uttered when we narrowly escaped the likes of Lemoyne, Colgate and Youngstown St. Or, his latest and rather embarrasing, "the game was closer than the score indicated" garb. I mean, at this point, I'd rather just hear JB's cringeworthy, "we just didn't make shots" excuses. Ugh!

He didn't say anything close to that. He said that Fans don't completely understand what is going on. That Red needs time to build his roster. That we have a strong class coming in. basically that it is too soon to make a judgment on Red.

TBF, Devo made a similar comment last year in his podcast with KJo about fans not knowing what's going on behind the scenes right before "Urinalgate" and Benny got booted from the team...

My initial thought when he made that similar comment during the gamecast on Saturday was - Great, what sort of dysfunctional team drama do we have going on behind the scenes now??

Whenever anything is going wrong and really wrong the first response is always "Everyone doesn't understand what is going on behind the scenes." They use that excuse because they have high hopes something will work and can't face the reality that it has gone sideways. They don't understand what went wrong or how to fix it and once that excuse is used it rarely ever gets better.

Red is a nice guy. I wonder if the players have enough fear/respect.

Here's why people won't accept this excuse. In addition to the fact that coaches build a new team every Spring in the portal, as recently as three months ago insiders were reporting that Red thought they had a better team than last year. It was also reported the staff was acting cocky about their moneyball approach, in that all the other programs were idiots for paying for certain guys, while he found all the "steals" in the portal. Play a few games and see we're terrible, and all of the sudden it's back to that he needs time to actually get his guys. These are his guys. Period.

Yeah, it's blatantly obvious code for; you aren't privy to the information that I'm so VIP ish to know. But give me a break, there's nothing to "understand," other than not having the transparent information/details. It's far from rocket science type comprehension, but simply connect the dots once you have the actual coloring book picture.

There's also been some veiled reports of whale NIL boosters feeling they were sold a bill of goods with some of these transfers and unless significant improvement starts happening soon, there are big problems for Red and his tenure.

Honestly, I think Devo got an internal memo to go out and circle the wagons for Red. His comments did feel a bit scripted to me (tho maybe I interpreted them wrong.)

Yeah I thought we heard from Bulldog who is a trusted poster that the staff was confident they had a good team this was an NCAAT team.

I couldnt believe some of what he was saying. To the effect of "Coach is doing great."

Were 0-8 against the Power 5, your record matters. I guess if he won just one of these we should be calling for an extension?

Its just gaslighting and thinking the fanbase is bball dumb compared to you and we need to shutup. I dont think he even believed what he was saying but he went too homerish with it and didnt stay neutral in his color.

I’ve been following SU hoops since I stepped on the Hill in 1991, and there hasn’t been a minute where there wasn’t *something* going on behind the scenes.

SU basketball is the One Life to Live of college programs. Constant drama every day of the week.

Yes, thank you, I should have included that. The guys who put up hundreds of thousands of dollars were told this would be a good team. They rightfully are unhappy.

We're all talking about how Cuse doesn't fire coaches in 2 years etc., but at the end of the day it all comes down to money especially in this era. If the whales abandon Red, he's done. It's just like politics. Once the money stops, you're done. So, if that happens this year, he's out in the Spring. No recovery.

On topic 1, agree - this is "Red's team". He is the manager. Any and every player is his responsibility. They're on the team because of him. Not me. Not you. No one else.

On topic 2, funny how far Devo has swung (no pun intended) since his days on campus (as an undergrad).
Also would Devo have lasted 4 years in today's environment? 2 years?

What about Billy Edelin?
<ducking>

Even Coach Jack said this team looked like the old SU teams.

Our offense looks good in practice since they are going against our pathetic defense. Our defense in practice looks good because they are going against our pathetic offense. Sounds like a joke but sometimes I worry it is that simple.

You asked a question, i answered. Im not expecting it, just thats what i would hear and say "alright, he gets it"

I think the issue I have is this: Red is not accounting just for this year and last year. He is a continuation hire, so fair or not (and I think it is fair), he is also representing the last decade or so, and especially from 2016 onward when he became Associate HC.

Again, whether that is fair or not, up for debate. But he is the face of the program now.

And the play and coaching has been so bad that when you are skirting the truth, it's not acceptable. Now, it's not like he's in NYC and coaching the Knicks where they would tear him apart, he is treated with kid gloves at Cuse, same as JB.

But the issue is now that the fans, at least the ones that even care enough to pay attention to his pressers, are going to be annoyed by the type of comments he is saying. You can't keep pretending. No more BS about Jaquan being good. No more Eddie being all world. JJ being back is great, but he's not an All American. Our defense is anemic. Our offense is sporadic, I guess? Varied? Trying to spin it, I dunno.

At least when JB would get annoyed during pressers, which I wasn't happy about, you could say he has been here forever, has all the wins, the title, etc. Again, it was still bad, but you sort of knew that it was an old cranky guy that was allowed to play out the string even though it was hurting the program.

I really feel like Red just doesn't have anymore runway. So the comments that are clearly absurd and untrue are going to be met with more vitriol.

What was it that JW said about JB in 22, "he's got a lot of goodwill or equity built up"

Autry doesnt have that and this whole experiment needed to be treated as dating and not marriage, where you get a chance but if things dont go right, its easy to get out of.

It's not the most important part of the job, but you can tell a lot about a coach by how he comports himself with the media after games, especially in defeat. I've watched most of Red's pressers and he's rarely looked comfortable up there.

Yep. JB is a one of one. Even K was at Army before Duke. I wasn't supporting him staying, but I understood it to an extent and like you said you can see the why the equity comment would be made/good will.

And agree re your point about Red.

And I hate this. I love Red. I keep telling people this, but I remember seeing his Scholastic Sports America on ESPN when he was in HS! He's one of my favorite players in the program's history. Such a bummer.

I know, I think hes the image you want as an ambassador of the program. Not 80, relatable to todays players etc but its just not translating to gameday

He seems like the cool guy Id want to join on a bachelor party or golf trip but sometimes that doesnt lead to being the CEO type
