Did Brent Axe say that we have our OC

I don't think anyone has delusions that we should be Alabama or LSU. Middle of the pack would be great and not at the bottom of the peer schools would be even better.

I know a couple of delusional people. They're out there.

I know a guy who won't watch SU football again until they build an 80,000 seat stadium with a retractable roof and hire Nick Saban and his entire staff.

and I believe that 100%. I know kids who considered Clemson for a hot minute for no reason other than 'just because' it'd be cool to go to school there. People outside the region only know who Clemson is because of their football program's success.

I think Georgia is getting that same push. Helps that Athens is apparently awesome. Two girls in my area (DC) went there in the past couple years. Their parents were surprised by the choice, but they love visiting on fall football weekends.

there's a few in every crowd.

Ha ha , I would settle for 49,000 seat dome and a solid staff with 6-10 wins. In my own self delusional world I still think it’s possible even though I’ve been told (here) it’s not by many of our scholars.

Visiting is a nice bonus, Athens is so great and is home to one of my favorite breweries. Some cousins of mine went there. My kid plays lax but Georgia and Clemson are two schools I floated if he didn't want to play.

It's what passes for journalism these days. Donnie Webb and Dave Rahme aren't walking back through that door. Mink isn't an SU guy (Penn State), so being snarky about it is just going to come with the territory.

I do think with the UVA situation, he should have mentioned that our $150M was kicked off with a $25M donation. That was intellectually dishonest. We didn't need SU to put in $ to kick it off. But we may certainly need them to close the gap.

I don't have a problem with painting the situation like it is though. We need to face our shortcomings head on. We have people in our fanbase who have no appreciation for a $125 season ticket that gives you a great view of the game. How do you go from 60% capacity in a small-ish stadium, paying almost nothing for tickets, to raising $150M? First thing you need to do is convince them that if they don't, they won't have much of a program to support.
Webb went to Alabama.

Rahme went to PSU.

And, yeah, they were more accomplished than the guys now on the SU beat.

yes we need better commitment from the University and better facilities but no matter what we are going to be limited talentwise, just like Wake Forest etc. we need better coaches. Robinson, Shafer and Dino have all sucked as game day/preparation coaches. That part is controllable, along with facilities, spend more on coaching staff and facilities and while recruiting will continue to be an issue, hopefully it will improve a bit and most important hopefully actual coaching will too. We are always going to be a developmental program. Our recruiting is no worse than Wake, and until Hafley, no worse than BC. They both make bowls almost every year and we can’t make more than 1 in the last 8 years. That’s a disgrace and that’s coaching

Please do not attack my good friend Dave Rahme like that. He does not deserve it.

I am pretty sure he went to Rowan University. Far more prestigious. Far less sleazy.

I stand (and mostly sit) corrected.

I crossed paths with the man a bit several years ago. Nice guy. And now I feel really guilty about defaming him.

He is a really good guy. I am sure he would laugh about it.

If you are reading this Dave, hope all is well. Happy Holidays!

Sure it is possible, you just have to wait out the 20 years of losing in between each uptick.

Dots over a vowel - Isn’t that called an umlaut?

By the same token, Alabama has fallen some 100 spots in the US News Rankings in recent years. Not by any means a super-important metric but still one that students and parents pay attention to. There has to be a sweet spot between using sports to support the academic mission of the university and having sports completely usurp the academic mission of the university.

I guess but a humanities degree is a humanities degree. If you're going to Alabama for elementary Ed does it really matter? At the end of the day for the large majority of people it doesn't matter where you get your degree from, just get one. People like to think it matters but it doesn't outside of the obvious Universities.

I don't think anyone wants to usurp the academic mission to get the University to use some of their pocket change to build a few athletic buildings anyways. Athletes are also students and good athletics could do more to enhance the profile.

Humanities or any degree is a combination of that field and the philosophy of that department at a given university. So even if they sound and seem alike they are not.
