Did Brent Axe say that we have our OC

Way different.

IMO they’re both annoying to read. Do I want to read our Cuse version of RutgersAl or a few of the doom and gloom. Both fake and annoying, all the same.

Here’s another prediction. He could hire Kim Jong-un or some other incompetent person for the job and some on this sight will claim it’s a great hire. It cuts both ways.

It’ll be a spring “camp” like no other.

Why would we wait till after the Bowls? You can announce before and they can coach the Bowl game still. Heck why even coach the Bowl game if you aren't in the CFB Playoff? They are meaningless. Well unless we are hiring Kevin Johns and he doesn't want to risk losing the trip to Hawaii. And it isn't like other schools are not hiring HCs, OCs, DCs, etc.
Negative recruiting on the coach

“Why would you switch there? He’s a lame duck coach” etc etc

I haven't read it yet, but wasn't there a subscription article that details how bad our facilities are? From last week I believe
Bad? Really? Cockroaches and rats? Or are we saying that we don’t have a Bugatti and that is UNACCEPTABLE

Signing day is done. There is no reason to stay elsewhere if you are coking here. If the guy is signed then he should be announced. What you describe is what would keep someone away in the first place.

The last quote in the article reads, “If you’re not happy with the way we’re recruiting, we need to invest into the way we’re recruiting,” Paulus said, “and facilities are a part of that.”

On the Orange weekly show they say we have the worst facilities in the ACC. Then Mink says UVA just voted to use University funds to kick start their fundraising camping and says Syracuse needs to decide if they want to take this serious or just keep cashing checks or something along those lines

He was fair about it. He said that UVA's news came out the day after ours. He just said Syracuse, the University, not necessarily the Athletic Department, just has to make choices. There's no right or wrong answer.

I think Syracuse's campaign was kicked off by the $25M donation that we already had. Based on that, I would assume that any decision from the University to pull from funds would probably happen at the end. Depending on the success of the campaign.

I’ll stick with that last quote, since I can’t see the rest of the story. I’m not an alum so I don’t have the same concerns but I fear that rat race. If it’s keeping up with ridiculous unnecessary extravagances, beware.

I agree and thank you for describing the segment better than I did. Mink put in all back on the university & part of his example was the Dome upgrade basically saying they waited until the last possible moment to upgrade/fix the roof before a collapse

That’s a great way for our local media to support our community.
The media's job is to report news in a fair and balanced way. Now you can read the article and say well that's why recruits aren't coming here because the local newspaper doesn't support SU or you could read it as they are pointing out a issue and the community needs to galvanize, come together and support the university with donations to make this happen

Bah humbug, lol

Does anyone for a second think Mink has extensively toured all 13 ACC facilities? We have work to do for sure but we currently at least check most of the boxes, it's a long way from Gross laying down astroturf at Manley.

The roof comment is silly.
I’m sure he just borrowed intelligence on other facilities from someone else. It’s practically the PS motto. “We report what is easy to report.”

The school is sitting on $2,000,000,000. It’s up to the school to invest. It’s payback is ticket sales

He hasn't, but others in the AD have, and they are the ones who told them where the school stands

If I was king, these endowments (and especially the ivies) would be getting crushed.

I hear he's a heck of a golfer and good at basketball. Maybe he can coach too. Of course if you question him in any way you and your whole family will die. May be worth it to be relevant at football though.

I thought Nate was okay. Kind of snarky and misleading at times, but I think most of his points were valid.

He should have mentioned that the only reason UVa committed funds from their endowment towards building their football operations center was because they had already been turned down by their top candidate for their vacant HC position because of lack of commitment to footlball (they would not commit to build the operations center for Poindexter), and their other top candidate was going to also pass unless he got the commitment.

They were in an impossible position and did the unthinkable. They committed endowment funds for sports facilities.

But I believe I read a report that SUAD did not pay a dime for the recent Carrier Dome renovation. I believe that was fully paid by SU funds. Though maybe donors helped some. I don’t think so though…don’t remember hearing anything about a fund drive though for that initiative.

SU committed over a hundred million of their funds for the dome renovation. Mink admitted as much, though he said there was no choice because the roof was about to collapse. That is BS. It had another 5 or 10 years of life. And they didn’t have to replace the air supported roof with a fixed roof. They could have just replaced the fabric again, like they had done a couple of times before. Remember also there are nundreds of millions more to be invested in coming years for the dome.

Then SU announces a $150 million dollar campaign to build a state of the arm football operations center/sports complex/athletic village.

But UVa commits $10.3 million dollars towards UVA’s new football facility which is budgeted to cost $65 million, so they clearly are more invested in football than Syracuse is.

I find this intellectually dishonest. He is being snarky to be snarky. If you want to be a journalist, you need to be objective, You need to present all the facts and be fair. Nate didn’t do that here.

He is right about one thing though. SU is behind in the facilities war. As they showed him. He didn’t find the story; the story found him. SU gave it to him and he immediately uses it to criticize them.

Sigh.

Axe mentioned all of that.

I think Mink was just going off of what the school gave him regarding peer schools like BC and Wake. How they did their fund raising campaigns a few years ago.

He did say that having 3 ADs in a relatively short timeframe has worked against us. An AD can’t put together a campaign like we did overnight.

I think his commentary was fair (albeit grim), but I also think it was very likely just sharing everything Paulus told him. It was basically if you want SU to recruit better, then pay up like fans of other peer schools have done.
