I made it to the second quarter before having to go to a wedding. Looking for any reason for hope

it did seem better with Pat Davis and Bergeron on the right side. I think this year an increased focus on the run (even going under center at time) is your path moving forward. I would also like to see actually jet sweeps happen. Then tommy can be more of a game manager and you aren’t relying on him to make hot reads on any blitz which just doesn’t happen.

So their defense stopped attacking as hard. It did appear that they played better as they got unit go some playing time together. QB play still wanting badly.
Ok

Hard to say. I think FSU let off the gas, and some of it was against second string. But FSU's second string is more talented recruits that many other team's first string.

The offense, the run game, the tempo, blocking in general, Tommy being in "flow," play calling, all seemed much better in the second half. Was it improved play or garbage time -- probably a little from both column A and B.

For a couple drives in the second half, we went away from a zone blocking RPO scheme to a drive blocking designed-run scheme. The running lanes were much more open.

Our line looked marginally better, but I don’t think our linemen really grasp their zone blocking responsibilities. For the few times yesterday that they were asked to put a hat on a hat and push, they seemed to do okay.

listening to the FSU xm broadcast it sounded like a few starters were out but also they kids they had in had played a ton in real game situations just judging by the stats they kept putting out.

I missed that last drive but was Pat Davis playing over Evan Adams?

A line of Bergeron, P Davis, Servais, D Davis, Vettorello would, if nothing else, allow us to play 5 people who will be back next year.

Pat Davis was in for Dakota whose shoulder is all wrapped up. Adams was still in at left guard.

If I remember correct their competition for right guard was close so I'm surprised they have not rotated more this year, especially with what looks like a shoulder injury w Dakota.

I like the right side being all Maple Leafs. Adams has been ok this year so moving forward I would like to see right to left bergeron, davis squared, servais, adams, vet. that way dakota or pat can slide over to left guard next year.

I would expect them to be a lot better next year. Then you have bergeron, pat davis, servais, dakota, vet. sophomore, senior (DID NOT REDSHIRT!!! UGH), redshirt senior, redshirt junior, redshirt sophomore. Maybe since these Canadians are 20 year old freshmen they don't need to redshirt but it would be nice to redshirt all offensive linemen and interior defensive linemen.

There was a difference in the running blocking in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th quarter. syracuse95 brought up an interesting point about a shift to drive blocking run scheme instead of zone blocking. I'm not sure if there was a wholesale shift in scheme (too hard for me to tell in game), but it was more effective.

The other factor, as DB mentioned in the PC, FSU scaled back on blitzing in the 2nd half, especially in the 4th quarter. And finally, the change in personnel.

Whatever the reason(s), I think we will see a major emphasis on the run game in the BC game to test the theory.

Agreed. Tommy does not do well when blitzed. No one dose well with jail break double A gap blitzes but even taking these out he does not do well with any blitzing even when given time.

He is much better with play action and roll outs. Hopefully they can establish the run a little better now. We will see.

The really frustrating part though is that the offense they are trying to run this year is the exact same offense as last year despite having to change some major pieces. They really made little to no adjustment to their current personnel. I would like to see Dino being more green and growing- even if it means running more power football (or even actual designed running plays). Abdul has a hole to run through on Saturday that I could have run through.

we ran a bunch of double pull plays yesterday for the first time..

one thing that it seems is that teams have been much better at timing out plays this year. so many late blitz calls have gotten thru clean.

the blocking was better yesterday but FSU has the DBs to take away first looks even when we had some time.

Can we all agree we need to get rid of the stupid handoff pump fakes that get blown up 1 yard back and make TD look stupid fake throwing the ball as the RB is getting tackled. It was pretty sad to watch

I thought FSU kept their starters out there deep into the second half of not the whole game. Wilson was out there on D. Akers got injured midway through the 4th and then came back late. So they may have let off blitzing but I saw little personnel change. And nit sure why they would change an effective defensive scheme.

they had the 2nd string that also played a ton early in the game too.. their 2 deep plays all game.

Clemson had the 3rd/4th string in yesterday and that didnt help BC move the ball

Eek! You just blindly accepted this from a guy who thinks Welch might get drafted.

It wasn’t all garbage time and I liked the fight out of the OL, RB and QB late. Can’t accuse them of giving up. I think if you’re looking for positives - the run game was one.

Rest of the season won’t be about wins but about building for next season. And while that sucks, there will be some signs that things are getting better (some won’t see them).

You can’t judge how well the offense played and great stats when the other team had the game in hand. Talking about how good our offense was when the game was over it’s just ridiculous.

I just said ok
