How many times are his in game late situation mistakes going to cost us. I usually don't give a lot of slack to the media but any time they question him on it his charismatic side goes away and he gets very defensive whenever he is asked about it. He does it again yesterday calling the timeout then going for it and getting no points. If you kick the FG and keep the timeout then the last drive we have an extra timeout and need only another 10-15 yards for a shot at a field goal. a lot of our weaknesses are being shown this year. Hopefully we can turn it around and make a bowl but at this pace idk if its possible to win 3 more games.

I'm liking this post only because the highlighted sentence is very true. I don't think he has very thick skin.

I will also say this is the first time he has ever been in this particular situation. It is very new.

He's never been at a job for four years, he's never seen a roster full of his own players and he's never had to experience success at a school before he experienced a trying time.

Of course if they kick the FG and never get the opportunity then the posts are about 6 pt FG's and being a coward.

Yup. Some in the game thread were going nuts over the first FG.

With this offense, I think you pretty much take the points whenever you can.

It feels like a minor miracle when we get into the red zone, and I have zero confidence in us converting anything on 4th down. We can’t really run the ball, and our QB is extremely erratic in his decisions. Any big 3rd or 4th down feels like it’s ending in a sack or a throwaway.

The field goal was smart, guarantee provided the d with a little more room for error. Take the points, can’t leave that possession with a 0

1) if andre made that field goal at half we are marching down the field in the last minute and only need a field goal

2) if Dino saves that timeout we have an extra 30 seconds

Obviously those 2 things didn’t define the game and Andre has more than proven his worth but those two things alone would have changed the outlook of the last drive, as a bunch of other things (including officiating)

While true, if we didn’t suck almost all game long, we wouldn’t care about a great kicker barely missing one freakin FG, or one timeout being used(people often say they’re “wasted” any time they’re used before the end of the game, but that’s not always accurate).

I’m more concerned about the big picture here: why can’t we move the ball?

I would have kicked the fg. But your point is spot on. The thing is, when you are a head coach. you have to do what you think is right and not what the fans think is right

The flow of the game can change things, but my general rule of thumb is to kick the FG or PAT if there is over 10 mins left in the game. There is still plenty of time to score again.

I don’t think it was a bad decision, but personally I think the best decision was to kick the FG. We still lose either way.

If we made the fg in the first half I think NC State approaches their last possession differently knowing we only need a fg to tie. With the touchdown difference it made them more passive. A fg difference and they would have been more aggressive as opposed to 3 straight runs.

He's screwed up a lot of times late games, clemson and pitt last year come to mind, I'm sure others I forgot about from early on.

I’ll give you that he hadn’t been great this year, but literally there was a study of this kind of thing and he was in the top 5 at pulling wins out of his arse

Not to nickel and dime the refs... but to your point, that hit on Tommy after the whistle should have been flagged.

That was a big no call.

I’m torn on that one.

By the letter of the law, the kid absolutely hit Tommy after the whistle.

Looked like he held up a bit right at the point of contact, and it really wasn’t an impactful hit.

Kid probably didn’t hear the whistle. Nothing else would really make sense.

Yeah, I wanted the call. But jeez. Would’ve been a cheap way to get 15 yards and we were fully crapping the bed any way. Couldn’t even get lined up and get a play off and a shot in the end zone all at the same time? Seriously?

You aren’t wrong.

But in the age of “protect the QB,” I expected the flag.

The “always the victim” Syracuse cynic in me says if the roles were reversed the laundry gets tossed onto the field. But that alone doesn’t make me right.

Also, on the missed Fg, if we ran the ball to the center of the field that makes that kick easier for Andre.

Oh, I agree. WE absolutely would’ve gotten flagged there. And we would’ve screamed BS for the same reasons that I talked about, IMO.

So while I wanted the call, I truly didn’t go too nuts about it because it didn’t seem malicious and because we were incompetent anyway. Felt kinda like a desperate “save us!” thing to want that call. Just my opinion from someone who half watched the game because the Giants game was a better watch for a long time.

And if John biskup makes that field goal in the 1st half we kick to tie instead of gedney 3 yards short.

Wouldn’t that make us the equivalent of Pat Dye if we did that?
