Dino is a terrible in game coach

N’Kosi Perry threw for 400 yards in a close loss to VT and then helped lead Miami to a win over UVA. They also almost beat UF with Jarran Williams at QB.

I’ll take Perry over Devito, especially behind our line.

I’m not arguing with you about the QB situation of a team that just beat us. Their musical chair QB situation is awful... ours is apparently worse. We have one struggling QB playing musical chairs by himself due to zero viable backups.
You would take Perry over DeVito? Wow.

Dino is not perfect, no one is, but he is a solid person and a good coach so he needs full support for at least the rest of this year and 2 more before any real criticism can be made.

I disagree . No matter what your job you need to hear objective criticism early and often and adjust if it's valid. Otherwise you're just in an echo chamber with everyone saying how awesome you are. Fact is, in game adjustments have not been one of his strengths. He has others. The staff should hear criticism, as well as the players, and ask how they can improve. Like anyone else, there are things he does well, and things that he does not so well, no one expects perfection. Bottom line is everyone here wants to see the team win and play well.

The expectations for the program are so high because of the past greatness that it makes people lose sight of the fact that this is a different era and one in which Syracuse football is in a competitive disadvantage relative to past era's.

This is silly. So, Babers gets no credit for a ten win season? That was all Eric? C’mon.

Truth is coaching here is hard, recruiting here is hard - and he’s done a pretty good job. We lost by 6 to a team like us on the road. *That* has happened to every Syracuse coach.

This is a great post. We are at a significant structural disadvantage given the lack of quality in NE high school football.

According to a lot of fans, SU has never had a good in-game coach, in ANY sport, save maybe Simmons Jr, but i'm sure there are some out there who complained about him too.

Take off your orange colored glasses...

Devito has been awful this year.

I hope he turns it around but if you ask any non-Syracuse fan that follows the ACC who they’d rather have, I think most would say Perry.

Perry threw for 400 yards against VT. He game managed his way to a victory over Virginia, finishing with a higher QBR than Tommy did against NC State.

Perry is not good... Devito has been worse.

Also, and perhaps most importantly, he’s mobile.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. It just seems petty to still be putting the man down 4 years later. I hope that people who have strong opinions about Dino don't feel the need to undermine him and further harm the program.
Someone’s opinion on a fan forum is undermining the program? If hat is so then we have a very weak program

He under 500. two more years might be pushing it if next year looks like this year

the game penalties are an issue. and that falls on the coaching staff mores than the players. IMO

Have you watched Perry all year. Every fourth pass is almost a pick and he was worse pocket presence than DeVito. Perry sucks!!!

You aren’t wrong.

But in the age of “protect the QB,” I expected the flag.

The “always the victim” Syracuse cynic in me says if the roles were reversed the laundry gets tossed onto the field. But that alone doesn’t make me right.

I thought it should have been flagged.

Tommy gave up the play - he should not have been touched at that point.

Miami fans don't even think N'Kosi Perry is good. They're stuck with who they have. If the QB who committed to them over SU is worth the hype this board gave him, he'll probably have the keys to the offense.

Firing him? Another person to put on ignore. There are opinions and then there are opinions like this.

How about people that ignore the on field results, if it turns around that’d be great but if mediocrity or less than that continues into next year, then we reassess.

Nobody thinks he’s good... that’s part of my point.

There was also contact to his helmet, at the bottom if I remember. So even if the refs thought there was a reason the defender still had the right to barrel into him, he made no attempt to hit him below the head.

The three and outs KILL ME. You have 12 days to prepare for your first drive!!! It should be scripted. I’m done with the first down runs. We literally start 95% of our drives with it and essentially we give away a down. Ridiculous
they kill our defense as well.

I’m torn on that one.

By the letter of the law, the kid absolutely hit Tommy after the whistle.

Looked like he held up a bit right at the point of contact, and it really wasn’t an impactful hit.

Kid probably didn’t hear the whistle. Nothing else would really make sense.

Yeah, I wanted the call. But jeez. Would’ve been a cheap way to get 15 yards and we were fully crapping the bed any way. Couldn’t even get lined up and get a play off and a shot in the end zone all at the same time? Seriously?
Cordy drew a flag for jawing after the whistle, the hit on Tommy was an actual hit after the whistle and absolutely should have been flagged.
