So how is that executed? I assume, after commenting on it post-game, he's already spoken to those staff members moving on?

do you do it pre/post signing and or bowl games i suppose.

Any changes, or reshifting of the staff may not happen until after signing day in February. There is still recruiting to be done for the 2020 class and still a lot of changes to happen on staffs all over college football programs. The college coaches convention is usually in February may not hear anything about changes until then.

They have to come sooner than that. Those coaches have to have the opportunity to find other work. I would expect we should see some changes this week or next.

I doubt it. Babers said in the presser he wasn't going to rush into anything.

Dino was an ass't at one time. He has to know you have to treat people better than that. This is their live. They have families to support.
Who says he will fire everyone. Might just shift some around. And their contracts are usually for one year.

Most kids sign at the early signing period now.

Dino may say he’s being methodical but I’d bet that evaluation period occurred during the season. It wouldn’t surprise me if he already knows who he wants to replace and who he wants to bring in.

Once you put it out there, it’s hard to wait until February. He’ll want to be fair to the exiting staff, give them time to catch on elsewhere.

Where in the world did I say that he was going to fire everyone? What I do say is that if you are going to let a coach or coaches go, you let them know right away. That is the decent thing to do.

As of this moment there are only 16 commits in the 2020 class. Still have 9 more spots maximum to fill.

OK. I shouldn't have said fired everyone but besides Ward do any of us know for sure who he plans to let go? He has been known to change coaches responsibilities and still retain staff. Plus coaches are always free to look around when still employed.

Reassignments are one thing. Removal is another. He can’t say what he said without having had discussions internally. Put this way, how much effort are staff members going to put into recruiting if they think they could be getting fired. No way.

I'd assume you're right, so why put it out there before then would be my only question

He was asked about it at the press conference, and he answered.

Or did you want Dino to "Boeheim" the poor reporter.

I was wrong about him firing Ward but I think some assumptions are being made to what "making changes mean".

discussions with who? maybe it was with the AD about money for upgrade to staff?

Reading the tea leaves, you see some movement in next week or so, commit wise?

Maybe some guys could save their jobs by bringing in big time recruits.

Might have a better chance filling those 9 with the players he wants if he makes his moves sooner than later.

I would bet sooner than later. Especially if the the money is there to get a top level DC & OC. That way:
1. They can bring some of their recruits with them.
2. They can assure current commits that the future is even brighter.

No way it will take until Feb for changes to come out. Guessing we will hear right after the early signing period when most of the work will be done. They may have 9 open slots right now but some will be filled by the early signing period and they are going to bring in some transfers. There will be attrition as well of course

I need an Italian shrug emoji.
Based on Dino’s comments, it sounds like not only will the DC be changing, but a change to the whole scheme used on defense is also being seriously contemplated.

The ACC is a tough league for a DC. You have a bunch of teams that like to use 3 and 4 WR sets and feature great speed, and a bunch of teams that like to use power rush schemes, often with a traditional FB and sometimes with two TEs.

It seems to me that the teams that have the most success defending in this conference with mid level talent are the ones that rely heavily on man coverage and multiple blitz packages. These kinds of defenses are proactive instead of reactive and put a lot of pressure on the offense. These approaches have been very successful shutting down our offense this season, for example.

It is going to be very hard for us to have a defense that consistently puts pressure on the QB using 3 and 4 men fronts with little blitzing. I think, and this is just my opinion, Dino has realized the Tampa 2 can only be successful in this conference with very good talent and experience. There isn’t much margin for error. The QBs in this conference are good enough to tear it up too often. In short, we have to do something different.

I expect we will go In a completely different direction on defense, finding a DC who embraces an extremely aggressive, attacking style.

Regardless of who the new DC is, I think it is likely he is going to want to bring in at least a few coaches who he has worked with in the past and know his scheme well.

IMHO, Dino made some mistakes setting up his staff initially. He needed to get some coaches on the staff with strong ties to Northeast recruiting but he almost completely ignored geography starting out and our recruiting in the Northeast has suffered greatly as a result. Even the guys he got to recruit the Northeast, Beatty and Hart specifically, ended up leaving before making any impact on the recruiting trail.

He has made a couple of recent hires with more background in the NE. Hope we add a couple more guys with ties up here. It is fine to recruit Detroit and Chicago but our natural recruiting area is the Northeast, and we have to recruiting better here.

This is a major moment in the Babers era. Dino is wise to take his time and make sure he makes good choices. We had the talent and experience to be at least a mediocre defense this season. The total collapse of the unit must lie mostly on Ward’s shoulders and Dino made a move he had to make. Let’s hope he makes some good decisions rethinking his defense this time. I think he will.
