Dino's Game 3 Press Conference for Albany: 10:55 AM

Syracuse HC Dino Babers speaking with media now. Said the Rutgers loss was “really disappointing.” Credits the defense for an excellent outing, but SU lost the other two phases.

Not a lot of specifics from Dino Babers on offensive adjustments. Some miscues were controllable. Others were a matter of miscommunication. Said SU needs to figure out how to handle option routes vs. concept-base schemes.

Dino Babers says at his Monday presser that we'll continue to see both QB's Tommy DeVito and Garrett Shrader on the field. “Until we’re totally 100% sure on who it is, we need to let them compete”

Babers reiterates QB Garrett Shrader’s debut was planned. It had nothing to do with DeVito’s performance over the first three drives. Implies it’s a tough situation, but they made a “commitment” to GS.

Babers says he hasn't had a chance to see Garrett Williams since he departed from Saturday's game early, but he's convinced Williams will be ready this week. He also says OL Dakota Davis will be ready to go very soon.

Babers said G Dakota Davis is getting ready to play. While he didn’t say it explicitly, it sounds like the key performer is nearing his return. Could be a good chance for him to shake off the rust vs. Albany.

This is on the QBs. Said SU needs to figure out how to handle option routes vs. concept-base schemes.

I know HCDB loves movies, but this isn't a movie, you can't script it. I do respect sticking to your word on the commitment so they need to figure it out and figure it out fast.

I'd like to see a WR rotation question answered. Taj Harris should be benched.

How can it be possible when Tommy is in year 5, Taj is in year 4, Sharod is in year 4, Queeley is in year 3, Jackson is in year 3? And if it is happening, how about scrapping the option routes?

This could explain though why Tommy holds the ball so long. He is reading the WR and not the D. Just read the D and let it fly. An incomplete pass is better than all those sacks he takes.

I have fear without evidence that Dino is mismanaging this.
I just don’t think our offensive scheme plays to Tommy DeVito‘s strengths.

We all know he has a big arm. He can really go vertical. And he throw bullets in the flat.

He also has decent feet - he’s not a great runner but he can move a bit. He’s not a drop back passer.

I think they need to move him. I think they need quick patterns and roll outs and play action to take advantage of his arm.

We must get the defense to bite at the LOS, and right now we are not doing that.

I put the blame on the scheme - not on Tommy.

You'd think with a guy like Tucker, we could run a couple of play action sweeps to the left, then roll Tommy out to the right and give him plenty of time to survey the field.

Seems like we never do it.

Maybe we're just saving it for Albany and didn't want to show it yet.

It was a stunning admission by Dino

Couldn’t agree more

We have a QB who has an elite arm in every way to measure it, good speed and 5yrs in the system (meaning he is probably very good reading presnap) yet we have a system where none of that matters if post snap reads break down for him (or the wr)

If your introducing a weak link in the system, it should be based on your players biggest strength instead of their biggest weakness

Can't believe this. I wish TD would succeed. I want to see Cuse scoring touchdowns and getting to a bowl game this year and every year. Seems to me though that TD has demonstrated that he can't break containment; can't extend a broken play, and can't move the pocket. GS on the other hand has demonstrated that he can do those things (when he was a freshman vs LSU and Auburn and on his 3rd and last opportunity vs Rutgers). Would like to see us salvage the season while there is still time.

He’s not really giving GS a shot at all. Didn’t play until last series against Ohio. And then against Rutgers he puts him in backed up at his own 9. By his 3rd drive he started to look more comfortable and started to make some plays. THEN HE DOESNT TOUCH THE BALL THE REST OF THE GAME!!!! I believe he should have went in earlier. But at the very least he should have went in on that last possession at the end of the game when it was already decided.

Dont pretend this is a competition. Because it isn’t. Devito has not done anything positive since his redshirt freshman year when he came in against FSU and UNC when they had no tape on him. He was fantastic. He has completely regressed since those games and is not a competent college QB.

Dakota Davis has injured himself shaking off mosquitos
