Dino's Game 3 Press Conference for Albany: 10:55 AM

And then we put all our eggs in the Devito basket and at the time we were fine with that. ED wasn’t perfect and he had some subpar games , but he was special and the type you don’t come across often.

I'd love to know from Dungey what made him believe, based upon what he saw, etc. that Armie (prior to him transferring out) would be the starter over Tommy after he graduated.

How about a seam route down the middle to a 6-7 target? Call me c
I think the issue with people is that good coaches aren’t knocking on the door to come to SU. Football recruiting is nearly impossible to bring in top end talent. People are also tired of another five year transition.
Been following this team since I was 9 listening on the radio, that's, 66 years. If Dino doesn't turn it around this year he doesn't deserve to be here next year.

I can deal with him going on and on for 3 min and jimmy g and that backer when its 2019 and we had a winning record, when his offense has been incompetent it just gets old. I mean everyone on this board could go on and on about the offense and how broken it is, I'll check out the albany game to see if he shakes it up but idk if I can last much past Q1

It really is, for the offense to be this bad in year six is unfathomable. There was a long thread about SU averaging over 30 pts a game, in 2 games weve barely eclipsed 30 points total against two bad teams. That said there's still a % on this board though that's going down with the Dino ship no matter what. I don't know if the 10 win season is doing it, they don't want to start over again or Dino loaned them money but people simply aren't facing reality. It's not optimal timing for John Wildhack with Desko gone and JB likely done after this year but he needs to pull the trigger and not delay the inevitable. As a wise man once said "Its over Johnny"
How does he just abandon going past and up tempo, forget he can use the middle of the field and TE's. The definition of insanity should be the Syracuse football offense, at some point when do you not put some new WR's out their and see what you have in shrader. Maybe do what got you to the dance and try to run the up tempo offense he was hired to run. He's gotta be aware of what happens if this continues and for that alone you'd think he makes some changes.

I don't really understand the math here. 2021 is already bought so 2 years left would 6.2, usually a (buyout) deal is made which is around half that which would be 3M, 5 tops. Assistant buyouts at SU aren't a big concern, most of them are year to year.
You're underestimating how much 5% compounded annually on a starting salary of 3.1M is. I'm not sure how much his base salary increases year over year, but 5% seemed like a conservative estimate.

If you even want to see another recruit from Don Bosco or any of the other larger Jersey schools again, you make a deal with the devil.
Why? He's a fifth year senior who started a lot of games and clearly is ineffective and not all that great. I doubt we'd ever get the stars of NJ but Tommy should have no impact on an NJ recruit who we should be competitive and recruiting against peer schools.

I recall Doug Marrone telling a story at a PJ Dorseys luncheon about how Schiano recruits. He would bring photos of the half filled dome to the NJ recruits we targeted and ask them why would they want to play in Syracuse where no one cares about football.

I am sure Schiano already has the photos printed up or the crowd from Saturday’s game for his pitch on why to sign with Rutgers so benching Tommy is the least of Dino’s concerns.

If we get back to winning 8, 9, or 10 games a year, and have 45000+ at each game we will get the good New Jersey recruits, or better ones from elsewhere.
That's the way recruiting works (win baby win).

We were talking about this Saturday. We aren't getting local kids that are AA types like the good old days. Just a lot tougher. Those southern and Ohio areas just has so much more when it comes to football, what's left is still pretty ok. My wife's hs in NC was terrible in the 90s, now they send multiple kids to ACC / SEC type programs.
If this team played to its capability on Saturday and the coaching staff wasn’t below average, we win that game going away.

I count 17-20 points tops with the guys on that field. Then again that would've been plenty.

No, I'm not. 5% of 3.1M is 155,000, compound that all you want, it's no where near the extra 4M you came up with. Besides, I'd be surprised if he's been getting 5% raises during a pandemic with 2 years of bad performances.

Year 1: 3,100,000
Year 2: 3,100,000*1.05=3,255,000
Year 3: 3,255,000*1.05=3,471,000
Year 4: 3,471,000*1.05=3,588,638
Year 5: 3,588,638*1.05=3,768,000

Assuming Dino needs to be paid out the final 2 years of his base salary contract he's owed 7.3 million. Add in another 1-1.5 for assistants and you're at 8.3-8.8 million.

Math aside, you came up with 5, I said 9, both are really large figures for the SUAD. Unless the wheels fall off and we only win 1 more game the rest of the season I'm not sure we'll see ADJW fire Dino this year, just do to the buyout amount and also just coming out of a pandemic. We've proven year after year, decision after decision that we're not a football school, and aren't going to spend like the big boys.

Haven’t we seen enough on Devito. I mean seriously, he should never start again let alone play 95 percent of snaps

No oline. Throwing to TES is not an option if you’re front 5 can’t block. That was the last two years
For me, if I have a struggling oline/QB ? I dump it to the TE. Either way, TE usage dropped off, last year. Rather enjoyed Mang's blocking vs. Ohio, though. (I just enjoy when TE's are a factor..lol)

Mang is a big kid. I was at the Ohio game and he stands out clearly.

So did his blocking. If the tight end isn't part of the receiving game? I'll take consistent blocking like that. (But please throw to the TE's...lol)

What are the odds that he mentions Ohana? So tired of this BS and hoping we can get someone in here that will “Just Win Baby”!
Did someone say Ohana:)

Field IQ. The players a few years ago obviously understood the offense better. Remember back we'd have the WR's patting their heads and nods and looks btw WRs and QBs. They knew what they were doing. Now it's a called play first read. And imo, the QB is just not good at reading the D and going with what the D is giving. That was supposed to be the whole point of the scheme. There are NO audibles now either if anyone hasn't noticed.

I'm also noticing lately on re-watch that players like Taj, when they know it's not coming to them take the play off. This didn't used to happen because anybody could get the ball.

But then again, who the heck knows what Gilbert is doing.
Obviously not Gilbert

Does anyone have an idea what the approximate buyout is?
Too much thats the problem. SU is in a very terrible situation. I seriously don't think the funds are there to fire Dino and hire a good staff. Im expecting Gilbert gets fired and Dino gets another year.

This wouldn’t shock me, unless some boosters step up. Disappointing to say the least.

Iv wondered the same

This is one the reasons why White makes sense. You don't have to give him a huge, long-term contract. Just a respectable one for a few years and give him a chance to see what he has.
