It’s too bad, kid can make plays. But he was used as a situational player to limit his snaps to increase availability.
Returning DE’s, Caleb, Geer, Simmons, Jobity, Jaquez, Nolton. Jalil Smith coming in.
It’s not the end of the world.
Maybe he wants to go somewhere where he thinks he can start. At his weight, he's limited.
Whether it comes out or not, I think there is some degree of “blaming” the program for his inability to gain weight. This is a loss imo but I think they will bring in a guy that fits the scheme better and can play on any down. Linton couldnt gain enough weight to be a true 5 tech. He can play somewhere as a traditional DE. He's a great athlete. I wish him well. If he can get to 250, watch out.
There are three down guys already on the roster than can take his snaps at a replacement or better level. It’s too bad, kid can make plays. But he was used as a situational player to limit his snaps to increase availability.

Yep. For every portal win someone else has to lose. All that matters is we net out to the positive come spring. The Portal taketh and the portal giveth. Time to giveth, staff!
Maybe he should talk to Josh HoughMeh. He’s proven he can’t gain weight.
Lowery gets in the backfield lightening fast. Agree he could benefit. So while I acknowledge this is a true loss
Watch out for Leon Lowery becoming more effective in Steve’s past role.
Maybe a better fit as an OLB in a 3-4??Will be interesting to see where he ends up. He has talent, but do Power 5 schools want to bring in a 219 pound DL?
S&C needs some improvement but its way too casual to point out 1 single player out of 100 and use him to represent the work of an entire program. The staff turned a mediocre FCS D lineman into a 1st team all acc player. The DL unit was already the weakest going into the season. Losing their best interior DT along with 2 others for the season had a lot to do with downside as well. Linton was pretty physical at 217. Can you imagine how good he could be if he got to 240? That's on him. He told me straight up that he couldn't keep the weight on.Whether it comes out or not, I think there is some degree of “blaming” the program for his inability to gain weight.
At 217lbs he had a good season, but we need better players than this period. He’s quick, no doubt, gets washed out too easily when engaged. Hopefully they can replace him, but we continue to struggle with recruiting. I would hope we’d have more success in the portal/Juco with recruiting players looking for a second opportunity, but struggle there as well. This, perhaps more than anything, it the downside of the five game slide this year.
I just hope it giveth close or better than what we just lost. With a little more size he could have been amazing. I know, it is what it is but it sucks. The Portal taketh and the portal giveth. Time to giveth, staff!
How many have we lost to that combo? Feels like other teams hit much harder than us, IMOPortal and NIL combo will continue to be a challenge
We're not getting out of the portal unscathed.Yep. For every portal win someone else has to lose. All that matters is we net out to the positive come spring.
To this point I'd say it's been a net positive for us. Just need to keep it that way.Portal and NIL combo will continue to be a challenge
Weight or not he’s a menace when he’s on the field. Didn’t matter that he didn’t weigh 25lbs more he was one of the only DL players that made big plays. I’ll take Steve. Any day of the week over some random guy that weighs 25lbs more and fits the profile. This is a huge loss for an already weak unit.Meh. He’s proven he can’t gain weight.
