Do you remember when Syracuse won the national championship?

Was on Marshall St that night, not in the famous pic but close by. Was a Soph, Melo/GMac/Hak were Frosh.

Funny enough I had really good season tickets my freshman year and went to every game but after a terrible season and NIT I decided the next year to to not get season tickets.

The Natty team didn't lose at the Dome then ran the table :).

Next year was a Sweet 16...
Then next 2 years we got bounced out of the tourney but won the Big East.

That was a hell of a fun time celebrating with you after the games JarHead.

I remember you pulled a legendary "walk-off" at about 5:30 AM. I remember you, me, and Jake stopping into (let's call it 'one last') bar after getting slices of pizza, then turning around and you were gone.

I think we were talking about it for about a week after. "What happened to JarHead"?
Good times!

Was at the dome watching this game on the big screens that they brought in and put on the football field. All the concessions were $1. It was packed and it was amazing. Great idea by SU at the time

I was there as well. Drove up from Oswego State with a bunch of friends. Think we had 2 carloads of us. Great times!

Going straight from Bourbon Street to the airport Tuesday AM was a thing.

First time meeting a bunch of these characters, I thought Bees was Paul Bunyon.

Back to the room at 6.

Quick shower, then to the lobby at 7 for the shuttlebus to the airport.

I think I slept maybe 20 minutes on the plane until they came by with breakfast service.

Breakfast service on a plane? This has not aged well.

what sucked for our group was we decided to drive. someone had to be back at work Wednesday morning at 8am, so we had to leave that great party at 2am that night to hit the road.

I was working at USGS-Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor and was giving an invited lecture at Kent State the next morning. My drive to Kent State felt more like I was flying.

After they beat OU to get to the Final 4, I was dying to go. For whatever reason, my best SU friends (class of 93) who are huge fans didn’t want to go. I had a blind date on Tuesday that week and I told the woman that I wanted to go but had no one to go with. She basically told me I have to go even if I go alone! Thank you Kim whatever your name was. Somehow connected with an old buddy from the D.O. who invited me to join his crew.

By then only way to get there from NYC was to fly to Jackson Miss and drive. Had reserved a car but met other SU fans on the flight and caught a ride with them. Scalped tickets at the hotel at the end of Canal Street where the coaches convention was.

Such an amazing weekend! The games were unreal, New Orleans is the perfect spot for the Final 4. Lunch next to Tom Izzo, Digger Phelps and other coaches at Acme Oyster. After the semi, bourbon street was crazy! Followed Carmelo around like a puppy dog.

Monday was epic. We were sitting upstairs but after they won, we went down to the Lower level to watch the ceremony. Ended up standing right next to McNabb and I was screaming nonsensical things that I’m sure scared the hell out of him. Hugged Michael Lloyd and thanked him for helping us land Melo.

Celebrated into the night but had to get some sleep - before the 4 hour drive back to Jackson for a 10 am flight Tuesday morning, drive hungover 4 hours in a. Driving rainstorm.

Biggest regret is not spending more time at the Marriott. But overall one of the best weekends of my life.

that's funny. like i said in a prior post, we drove from syracuse. but my brother who lived in nyc flew out of nyc to jackson mississippi and we picked him up there on the way to new orleans. dropped him off there on our way back. think his flight was the 10am one too. small world.

our biggest regret also was not staying longer at the marriot and having to leave at 2am.

It was a helluva month. Four consecutive weekends:
Big east tourney
Boston
Albany
New Orleans.

The ticket scrambles -
Scalped outside the Garden in NY
Same in Boston
Albany tickets were crazy. Myself and other SU fans buying tickets via phone from opposing team box athletic departments (Auburn?) might be my favorite part of the whole month.
Scalped in New Orleans

Drinking the Marriott Hotel dry Saturday night - well into Sunday Morning - after the Texas win.
Watching a Texas fan absolutely lose his mind leaving the Superdome after Celebrating Syracuse fans were chanting “where’s TJ Ford?”

Final game seats about 15 rows up from where Hakim’s block landed.

The list of memories is endless..
My 12 yr old was yelling Hook Em Horns at UT fans as we streamed out of the dome for the walk back👏🏼

Missed Manhattan but was at the other five.

Not sure I've ever been in an atmosphere as electric as the OU game.

By the time I got home from Albany, my wife had already booked flight and hotel.

Yes……it will always be seared into my memory!

Was a university b employee, at the time, we had a meeting cancelled so we went to Schine and watched it!

Really needed a thread like this right now. Love all the stories and pics people have shared!

I attended the SU-Philly alumni club watch party for SU-Texas. It was a blast. But I decided to drive to Syracuse for the Dome game watch vs. Kansas. As Monday unfolded, I had second thoughts. It was getting snowy and icy. A four-hour drive in that mess suddenly seemed like a lot. I told my wife I might change my plans. She cares nothing about sports. To this day, she has never understood my fanaticism for Syracuse. Nonetheless, in this instance, she brushed aside my hesitation and implored me to go. Said if SU won, I would always regret not being on campus for it. I went and she even came with me. One of the best decisions of my life -- prompted by a very unlikely source.

We went to Dome watch with an old SU friend of mine and his wife. As others mentioned, it was simply amazing. Moments after the win, I told my friend I always felt the ghost of Keith Smart. Now I felt it fly out of me like a screaming demon. A teen in front of me (did not live "the shot" but was familiar) remarked to me that hearing about my exorcised pain made him appreciate the joy he was feeling even more.

We watched all the post-game coverage through "One Shining Moment" then went to Marshall Street. The craziness had waned a little by then but there was still a lot of people and small fires of random debris burning in the middle of the street. As a student, I missed the '87 run by one semester. Not my fault, but it left a hole in me. Being on M-Street at that moment filled it in -- not completely, but just about.

We stayed overnight with my friend. Came back to campus the next morning to get lunch, then shop the bookstore. It was eerie how quiet and normal-looking M-Street looked just 10 hours or so after the celebration. Hardly anyone around. No trash anywhere. A visitor passing through town would never have thought anything unusual happened the night before. There was plenty of people at the bookstore though. It was surreal seeing "Syracuse National Champions" merch as far as the eye could see.

Watched it in my frat house. Cried. Went down to M Street where it was snowing. Went to Maggies.

Good times.

A night those of us on the hill that night will never forget. Definitely brought up many emotions as a lifelong fan and to experience it while being there.

My favorite moment still was as we came out of the dome you had people from the local neighborhoods driving around honking and high fiveing all of us students and it was just pure joy. A whole community and fan base collectively celebrated, cried and breathed a sigh of finally it happened…. And then we hit Marshall St (again lol) and went nuts

Being on scholarship and paying my own way otherwise working multiple jobs I couldn’t afford going to Albany or New Orleans no matter how bad I wanted to but experiencing it with the dome watch party and on campus was just as special.
