This is getting tiresome . The talent levels of these two programs is not so different as to explain the result

Pitino knows how to attack the zone. And he always has talent. So he wins most of the time. The zone works because it's based on playing the percentages. Most teams don't know how to attack it...and fewer have the talent to do it.

His default system/strategies match up perfectly with ours...

We virtually never play more than 7 guys. His teams tend to press a lot, and he usually has a deep bench.

Our teams run very basic offenses, and sometimes it's totally freelanced. His teams mix up defenses a lot and play them all well.

Our teams tend to be very bad at the free throw line. His teams play physically and aggressive, and can fade foul trouble due to usually having a deep bench.

We exclusively play a 2-3 zone. His teams face some zone in practice, and he knows exactly how to break down the 2-3.

It's tough to rebound out of the zone. His teams are usually very aggressive on the boards.

It kind of puts a cap on what you can accomplish if you have a team in your league who's good for giving you 1-2 L's every year.

That cap is a little higher when we inexplicably have to hope for a split with Pitt and can't beat UNC.

JB does his thing and if you beat it, oh well.
Well that's one way of looking at a coach's Hall of Fame career.

Maybe more coaches should do their thing and if they beat it, oh well.

Yep and Louisville has that cap because they can't beat UVA. Bennett owns Slick Rick

That is UNC before they get hit with crippling sanctions.

Wait, are you preparing us on how they will beat us WITH the crippling sanctions? Did you hear the announcers pick PITT of all ACC teams to mock this season, and yet they still beat us.

to steal a line from the announcers Pitino game plans to attack your weaknesses, JB does his thing and if you beat it, oh well.
Ok, but you're paraphrasing Steve Lappas here. Not exactly a great way to bolster any argument.

If Lappas is only able to articulate Boeheim's style of coaching in such limited terms then that certainly explains why he hasn't coached in so many years.
He did mention that he helped JB and Slick Rick become HOFers. True enough and one of the few things he said today that made sense.

I think these two iterations have a pretty big talent disparity. Snider is a good solid, PG, and Mitchell is better than Battle at this point. The frontcourts aren't even close. They have several athletic, physical big men, while we really only have Thompson, who is very raw. Lydon, White and Roberson are way too soft to contend with that. Same reason we can't compete with UNC.

Damn, I was going to post as similar thread but the OP beat me too it.
JB is 5-12 now against Pitino at L'ville.
Has any other coach owned JB as much as Pitino has?

Lappas made accurate comments on JB's style and was on point. Lappas had a winning record against JB as a coach head to head. This was also when our talent level was superior to Nova's as well.

JB had a 10-6 series edge over Nova when Lappas was coach

This series is closer than the record appears. Gave away the BET title game when they had a double digit lead and squandered a chance to win at the Dome last Monday. With the exception of the 2009-10 and 2011-12 teams, Louisville has had a better roster than SU so the results between Boeheim and Pitino shouldn't be surprising.

For one no he doesn't have a winning record it is like 9-5 or something like that when Lappas as at Nova. Secondly we did not have equal talent.

Boeheim doesn't have a losing record against Lapas when he was at Nova so you are wrong about that. Also our talent level wasn't superior to Nova. They had a team with Kittles and Lawson that was a 3 seed and then the Tim Thomas team. They probably had slightly more talent that us. Kittles and Thomas were both top 10 picks. I don't remember us having a top 10 pick during this time. Please correct me though if I'm forgetting somebody.
