for me it would be a Special Teams coach with strong recruiting ties to New York/ New Jersey'

I'm not sure who fills those requirements, but a hire like that would make me a happy fan.

how bout you guys? What would your dream hire for Shafer in the off season??

Mike Leach as HC with a Scott Shafer or even Chuck Bullough defense.

If McDonald leaves then a wr coach that can recruit Florida and coach incredibly well.

Hypothetically speaking. Because Coach Shafer is a good man who deserves time.

For me, Jeff Stoutland - OL coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why. He has strong SU Football experience. He was a recruiting coordinator - considered a very good coordinator. He was Saban's associate HC at Alabama. He is an OL coach. He has NFL experience and Chip Kelly experience. And, I think OL coaches make good head coaches.

legit question--why would he leave associate head coach at alabama to end up as a ol coach for phila. eagles????i agree that ol line and d line coaches make good hc's

Eagles with Chip Kelly > Any college job that's not HC somewhere

I don't think we need another NY/NJ guy. Acosta's been very good for us with just one year under his belt. I'd want a S.FL guy. WR/ST.

Based on the fact that Addazio, Mullen and Strong all came from Meyer's Florida staff, I'd be looking at who he has on staff now. He may be morally challenged but he can obviously identify good coaches.

Maybe Stan Drayton would come back to SU. I am joking, of course.

Bobby Wilder or Brian Scott from Old Dominion.

Pasqualoni may be out of a job as soon as the Bears season is over... Yes, I am joking too...

Wouldn't mind Ed Orgeron coming in as a positions coach, the man can recruit like crazy.

Depends on who is leaving. The only thing I am looking for is an OC who has several years of proven success running an offense somewhere. I don't want a first-time OC, nor one who has (predominantly) helmed poor offenses, nor one who has one year of experience in the job only.

If Shafer could find it within himself to get out of the "two degrees of separation from me" hiring philosophy on this one position, he could have a long run here.

HC Doc Holliday from Marshall but I think he will probably get a HC offer from the SEC before too long.

Shaf needs to hire someone outside of his circle of trust.

Time to sack up and perform next year.

Ouch, the bloom is off the rose.

When you've lost Tomcat and Rocco, ......

stan drayton was here in 2009. shrug

zach smith is young. worked with addazio and meyer. earle bruce's grandson ha

i'm still laughing at florida. coaching trees don't get better than meyer's but if it ain't broke, you gotta hire a meathead to fix it apparently

Maybe his dream job is an NFL HC. OL coach is a stepping stone position. Next promotion is OC, then HC. I think it's probably easier to go from NFL OC to NFL HC than from college HC to NFL HC.
