Dream Hire...

Maybe his dream job is an NFL HC. OL coach is a stepping stone position. Next promotion is OC, then HC. I think it's probably easier to go from NFL OC to NFL HC than from college HC to NFL HC.

Could follow the Doug Marrone career path NFL OC -> D1 HC -> NFL HC

Hypothetically speaking. Because Coach Shafer is a good man who deserves time.

For me, Jeff Stoutland - OL coach for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Why. He has strong SU Football experience. He was a recruiting coordinator - considered a very good coordinator. He was Saban's associate HC at Alabama. He is an OL coach. He has NFL experience and Chip Kelly experience. And, I think OL coaches make good head coaches.

He's never been more than a position coach except when he was interim HC at Miami for their bowl game when Shannon got bounced.

OC, sure, but we couldn't afford him and the guys he was at SU with, Addazio and Mullen, have been HC's for years now, and Mullen was a GA. There must be a reason why he has been a lifetime OL coach. You just can't drop him in as HC with that resume here.

SU is P5 program that is no longer a dreg, regardless of the record this year, they shouldn't be that desperate.

If you are going to take a flyer here you go.

John Hevesy. From Madison Ct., Maine Grad. With Meyer and/or Mullen almost every step of the way from SU on.

Coaching Experience
2014-present: Mississippi State (Co-Offensive Coordinator/ Running Game/ Offensive Line)
2009-13: Mississippi State (Running Game Coordinator / Offensive Line)
2005-08: Florida (Tight Ends/ Assistant Offensive Line)
2003-04: Utah (Offensive Line)
2001-02: Bowling Green (Offensive Tackles / Tight Ends)
1998-2000: Brown (Offensive Line)
1997: Syracuse (Graduate Assistant)
1996: Brown (Offensive Tackles / Tight Ends)
1994-95: Trinity (Offensive Line)

Hevesy?

Interesting.

You've been doing your homework.

To be clear, I love HCSS. I am not looking for his replacement. I was thinking more along the lines of a special teams coordinator or an offensive coordinator. When you go from beating up West Virginia to getting punked by Villanova you have to consider shuffling the deck a little. I hope Shaf makes the right moves.

The difference, pretty much, between beating up West Virginia and narrowly escaping Nova is one position.

Quarterback.

I saw much more than that. Villanova put on a clinic that day on how to tackle while our guys went for the big hit and usually gave up extra yardage. I saw no confusion when Villanova had the ball. SU-not so much. If I rewatched the game I could go on.

Defense wasn't the issue this year.

Nice find. Only thing missing is head coaching experience at a lower level but Kelly didn't have that.

Chad Morris would be my choice...Look at other offensive minded coaches from high school ranks...i.e. Briles from Baylor & Gus Malzahn from Auburn

It's fun to kick names around, but I strongly believe that the transitive property doesn't apply to football coaches. Different coaching situations require different skill sets, and just because a coach succeeds in some capacity at one school doesn't mean he will do the same at another program. Just as often as not, the opposite is true, and the college football landscape is littered with examples (Turner Gill, Charlie Weiss, Skip Holtz, Lane Kiffin, etc.). In fact, I dare say if we were able to bring back coach Schwartzwalder, I'm not sure he would enjoy the same success today. I'm reminded of when legendary NFL coach Bill Walsh took his 3 Super Bowl rings to Stanford, and was promptly canned 3 years later. That would be like Syracuse hiring Bill Belichick today. There simply are no guarantees when it comes to coaching.

Pasqualoni may be out of a job as soon as the Bears season is over... Yes, I am joking too...

Wouldn't mind Ed Orgeron coming in as a positions coach, the man can recruit like crazy.

Not a dream hire and please don't ban me from the board for bringing up Western Michigan, but how about P.J. Fleck HC at WMU?
He's the youngest HC in D1 and a high energy guy.
He walked into a bad situation and immediately raised over 4 million dollars from private donors.
He was 1-11 last year -this year he is 6-3 playing mostly freshmen and sophomores and is an OT extra point loss to Toledo away from 7-2.
He hired a good bunch of assistant coaches that know how to teach.
By the end of next year he will probably be a hot commodity and if Shafer doesn't improve the timing might be right.

Ouch, the bloom is off the rose.

When you've lost Tomcat and Rocco, ...

When you are as emotionally invested in this program as I am, snapping may eventually happen. I'm not quite there, but getting there pretty quickly. Before the injuries, we were horrible with a healthy squad on offense. So enough of that blame game. Time to take accountability and realize you're only job is to win football games, not made random ass comments at pressers.

I know many of you are the exact same way as me.

Right there with you. Worst part is I had expectations. We had more then enough talent returning where it should have been a gimme to get to 6 wins. Even before injuries became everyone's excuse, you could tell right from the opening quarter that this wasn't a good team offensively. But it's not even limited to offense. Defense played a part in 2 of them losses, as did special teams. There are definitely some reason for concern.

Nicely stated, Rocco. I'm right there with you.
