Dream Hire...

Pointless thread. Shafer is the guy in 2015 and probably 2016 (and I think on into a nice career here). The list in 15 or 16 will be much different.

This thread is purely therapeutic.

Hey bud, not trying to stir up trouble and I value you as a poster on this board. Just curious where your faith in Shaf comes from? I want to feel good about HCSS for a change. You really think he will be around for a while and has the stuff to turn this around. I was very passionate about him early on, but have had a hard time staying on the wagon over these last two years. Too many WTFs!

Thanks. I'm encouraged by being top 30 in defense for two seasons and by his first full recruiting classes production. I think we are an average offense away at being top third in the ACC. I am on an island - but I think Lester will do a very good job next season with his system.

I'd love to have the QB situation be a little clearer - it's hard to win at any level with a 3rd stringer freshman or a guy who can't be accurate passing the ball. But maybe the system helps mask Hunts flaws next year?

Yeah I agree, he gets 2 more years. Especially with the late turnarounds we've seen from coaches like Mullen and Cutcliffe. Also helps future coaching prospects to know that they have time too if things don't go well. I just posted the coaching list cause I hadn't heard a number of the names and like you said, it's therapeutic.

Just great. Now when Gundy gets bounced or Stoops gets bored he can just slide in there.

It was only a matter of time. He's on the Gus Malzahn track now.

I think you guys were shooting for the stars on that one. Not that we shouldn't try, but we're stuck for at least one more year, if not two, so...

He was my first choice when Marrone left.

I hope that Gross starts a file on him, McNeil and Holliday just in case. Surprised that neither of those guys got a sniff in the last round of hires.

the bright side of this is there's nothing magical about that offense. it just required enough balls to be different. there'll be other assistants as the briles tree starts branching out

Thing about Baylor is that areas that were behind the pass offense when they took over was the run game and defense. They have addressed those as they built the program. They don't have a one trick pony approach to how they have done things.

baylor has run the ball great every briles year except one where griffin got hurt

the big thing they do that's really different is lining up WR even further out to the sidelines. other teams don't do that because the routes are too limited by the sideline. but it's more than worth it to get defenders the hell out of the way. if alley defenders are cheating, make that alley gigantic and it's cake for the QB to see what the defense wants to do

the other thing they do is convert 25% more 4th downs than the next best team

we're going the other direction in both regards unfortunately

i wonder if their defense is better simply because everyone runs similar offenses in the big 12. their defense might be less prepared to face power teams if they every played them but everyone in the big 12 has decided if you can't beat 'em join 'em

d yards per play is middle of the pack vs conference teams

I'm comparing the defense to where it was, which is comparable to where SU was in 2006 - 2008 or where SU's offense was this year.

Like we have all been saying, you don't have to be great at both, but you have to be at least good. Top 20 in one and top 60 in the other should get you to that 9 win area.

i wonder if there's ever been a defense where their best game was 67 yards allowed (SMU in 65 plays) and their worst was 712.

even i'm like whoa whoa whoa let's not get crazy here when someone mentions june jones. all good things come to an end.

baylor held LICATA in check which is something to be proud of

he finished up the last two games 36-48, 8 TD, 1 INT

go get him!

Because he's the QB Syracuse fans deserve, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll shun him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our QB 1. He's a passing machine. A stoic game manager. A Quarter Back.
