Drew Allen

Isn't there another point guard out there we could get to come in and play qb for SU instead?

Really ? The QB battle is between some kid not on the roster and two true freshman? Ok.

I am saying that if he came here as starter, it is because the coaching staff told him he had a strong opportunity to start. As he has other suitors, it is a very likely occurence that would occur.

So, if he has that opportunity, the staff obviously would not like the cupboard at QB and the job will likely be won by one of their own recruits.

I'm sure Drew was told there's a great opportunity - nothing more nothing less.

And we won't be starting a true freshman next year no matter what.

If that is what they told him, then he prolly isn't coming here.

If you were a kid with one year of eligibility left, you would want some type of assurance you will be starting on opening day.

Kid sat on the pine at OU for 3 years. I will say 100% that wherever he ends up, he is starting.

Ballsy prediction on no shot a true frosh starts the 2014-2015 season.

Then he should be looking at Mount Union, not Syracuse.

Was he at the lax game? ( Was it this wknd he was coming?)

i don't even think a kid from texas would know what lacrosse is.
yahhh...speaking as a Texan, you're wrong on this one. Lacrosse is exploding in popularity here.

That being said, I'd be surprised if they took Allen to a lacrosse game as part of his recruitment.

admittedly i don't follow lacrosse so i didn't know where in it's expansion it is, but this is what i was getting at with my post. with respect to the lax guys here, i would say very few if any, would really care to attend a lax game.

Hope he didn't visit this weekend while Shafer was at the BET...

Lax is getting huge in Texas. Check out our roster we even got one...
Yep it is starting to pick up down there. One of our friend's daughters is going to be a freshman at Northwestern in the fall, playing lacrosse. I looked at their rooster from last year's ncaa championship team. Roughly 45% of the team was from NYS, but there were also 3 girls from Dallas.

2) The year after's QB will be a battle between Long, Kimble, Wilson and any other QB recruits from this class

Long? Didn't he just commit and is a 2014 recruit. How the hell would he be in the mix this year?

Battle will be between Loeb, Hunt and Kinder this year. Both of the freshman Kimble and Allen will both probably red-shirt. Just as PhatOrange said basically. Hunt will be the guy.

If he wants a guarantee he should go to Arkansas State pretty decent program in the Sunbelt could dominate there for one year and take his chance in the draft.

You missed the point.

The point was that, if Allen was coming here, he would be the starter this year. Because he is looking at enough schools where he will select the one where he has the best chance to start.

So, if the staff takes Allen, they obviously are not happy with the cupboard at QB. So, Allen will be the starter for the 2013-2014 season (you would be hard pressed to find an example of a staff taking a new player with little previous connection and only 1 year to play be on the bench).

After that season, given the fact they took a 1 year kid over having a player like Hunt or Kinder getting a year of experience and playing, I believe the 2014-2015 starter would be one of Long, Kimble, Wilson (Allen is at TCU) or another soon to be 2013 recruit.

Now, all of this means nothing if Drew Allen doesn't come here. But, if Allen comes here, that is how I see this playing out.

Drew Allen isn't coming here as we already have 3 QB's on the roster and 2 more inbound. Long isn't coming until 2014. Next year after Loeb graduates we will still have 5 QB's unless there is a position change and that is not counting Broyld if he is given a shot. Hunt, Kinder, Kimble, Wilson, Long, Broyld and they are still recruiting another. Like I said, he isn't coming here.

Was I to assume by your first post all of the information above? How in the world was I expected to get your point without all the information? You drew a line from A to Z with nothing in between and expected everyone to assume B through Y and say, yeah that makes sense.

If he isn't coming here, none of it matters. But, he apparently visited and is under consideration.

From my first post, which you commented on, it clearly stated that if Allen came here, I believed he would start and then the QB's recruited by this regime would be the ones battling for the year after that.

How you got that I thought Long would be in the QB competition this year, I am highly unsure.

I won't pretend to know whether he's coming here or not but numbers would seem to be useless in this situation as far as I'm concerned. The questions regarding Allen, assuming he would have any interest in trekking north, would be these:

-- Are we comfortable with the candidates we have for the starting spot?
-- Are we comfortable with our depth at the position?

If the answer to either is no, then he's worth the scholly since it's open anyway. It's not like there's a rule against having a bunch of QBs on scholly, especially since two would be gone at the end of the year (this kid and Loeb) and one is probably on the outside looking in to a large degree (Kinder).

So when you look at it that way, in terms of viable starting qb candidates, we're actually pretty thin: Loeb, Hunt (who's already gotten himself in trouble once) and two true frosh who are complete wild cards even though we all get excited about each new recruit.

I like this development. Maybe he's being brought in to have another QB on the roster to compete with Loeb. The way I see it, Kimble and Wilson are going to be Redshirting, and that leaves Kinder, Hunt, and Loeb. Hunt and Kinder seem like a similar type of QB so I would imagine if we're going the dual threat route that those two would be competing. Charley seems more in the Nassib mold to me, and if we go that route, there isn't another QB on the roster that's really in that mold. Maybe that's what Allen brings to the table.
