Drexel Postgame Thoughts...

Great start so far.

My one concern continues to be the fact that we seem to be a pretty lousy rebounding team. In our 3 games versus cupcakes, we were out-rebounded by one of them, we were equaled by another, and we barely out-rebounded the third.

That has to significantly change once we start playing the big boys.

Making more shots will help, but it would be nice to consistently win the offensive rebounding margin.

Donnie Freeman is averaging 2.4 less boards a game than last year. (5.4 vs 7.9)
I don’t know if the defensive emphasis and assignments have affected his board work though. We do need to ramp up rebounding though.

He wasn’t great early last year but came on the more games he played.

Valid concern. I think a rewatch will show us some things too. Drexel just was really solid at cleaning up the garbage shots they were taking.

I think they had almost 10 boards on airballs. That's on our guards though. All Kyle's man was doing was holding him down. Rest of the team needs to get in the paint and watch where that ball is going.

I don’t get it, why the need to run down guys on the team?
Me saying JJ is the 3rd most athletic guy on the team is running him down? Just a fairly easy observation to make that Kyle and White are more athletic.

I can only talk about this game but he was pulled out from the basket pretty consistently. They had him guarding near the 3 point line over and over

I'll keep saying this to will it into existence. Get Kingz involved early. George, Donnie and Kiyan control the ball and he's always an afterthought, especially in the first half. Seems to do most of his damage in the 2nd half.

Syracuse forward Tyler Betsey seemed to roll his ankle midway through the first half of Saturday’s game. The sophomore forward had scored five quick points off the bench before going down in the lane with 9:31 remaining in the first half.

Betsey hobbled off the court and then limped into the team’s locker room for a few minutes before returning to the bench. Betsey never re-entered the game.

“I think it was his ankle, so I think he might’ve twisted it or rolled it,’’ Autry said after the game. “You know, I’ll find out more when we get back in the next day or two. But it doesn’t seem like it was that serious.’’

Betsey joined Syracuse guard JJ Starling on the Orange’s bench for the remainder of the game.

Starling, SU’s leading scorer last season, missed his second straight game after injuring his right leg less than four minutes into the Orange’s regular season-opener against Binghamton.

Autry said Starling was nearing a return to the lineup, but wouldn’t say if the senior guard would be ready to play in the Orange’s next game on Tuesday against Monmouth at the JMA Wireless Dome.

“I think he’s really close, you know, really close,’’ Autry said. “I expect him back, you know, pretty soon.’’
