Class of 2018 DT Cam Goode (DC) Va Tech to UCF to Michigan

Any news on our most important recruit

Sounds like he was quite impressed by Michigan but it sure as hell sounds like he wouldn’t play a lot there, and he would likely start here( or at Vandy). So, depends on what is most important to him I guess

It has to be starting. At SU or Vandy he gets a chance to prove himself against top teams. At SU he gets a chance to actually win a few of those games. At Vandy he gets a better education and city. At SU he gets to play with friends.

Makes sense. We need him, it must happen

Having been at the Spring game and visiting with the kids after it is pretty alarming how thin we are up front. I know many on here are of a different opinion but if I'm an opposing coach I would run the ball down our throats. Unfortunately, I don't see how we can hold up over the course of a full season with our current Dline group.

And playing Linton as a DE is doubling down on the lunacy. He has to replace either Wax or Thompson, and be a 4th down lineman. Or we will be bum rushed by opposing offenses.
Gut feeling is Cam is looking for an excuse not to come here.

I dont why. He would start from Day 1

Lunacy? Linton is not good enough at LB. He's more natural at DE. We just have to hope he adds and maintains his weight.

Yes, hence the lunacy. If you're going to have only 3 guys sticking a hand down on the D-Line, you can't have 1 of them weigh 217lbs.

A starting front of Caleb Okechukwu(269lbs)/Cam Goode(300lbs)/Akheem Mesidor(272lbs) would make me feel comfortable about next season's D-Line.

We're hardly ever in a base 3 man front. I view Linton as a stand up rush DE. Not saying we can live with it but I can't see Linton with his hand on the ground to often. Even when we do we're still bringing 4 and 5 guys.

Im lost, when did the staff say they want him to stay at 217? Is there a interview or article I missed?

I hope he does, but the fact he's been here this long and added so little to this point, doesn't make me optimistic.
I told him he has to gain weight. He said I know man, Im trying. He laughed about it. I told him to eat 10 PBJ sandwiches a day lol. If he doesnt, than he will never be a full time DL. Its going to limit him to 30-40 snaps a game.

I'm not questioning his desire-Some guys have a hard time putting on weight. I wish I had that problem.

Bergeron thinks the world of Linton. The staff does too, if he is working with the starters.

It will be interesting to see how he does in the fall.

I hope he isn't one of those guys whose weight stays really low until after this senior season, when he drops out and really dedicates himself to getting ready for the NFL. And adds 25 pounds of muscle then.

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches can be quite delicious. Toast the bread. Mix in a banana or two. Maybe some bacon.

Butter it up, grill it on both sides and add some bananas. If anyone knows about how to put on weight, it is Fat Elvis.

No, I was just sharing my convo with him. Just letting you know that he's well aware that he needs to gain weight and that he's trying.
Money thanks for the info. I think we all know that he has to be trying to add weight. Nobody wants him playing at 217 lbs. But I assume he has tried to add weight in previous seasons as well. I mean really what is the expectation here? The kid obviously struggles to gain weight. Even if he does start to gain some weight what is the realistic expectation for a kid with his genes and history of low weight to gain...maybe 13 lbs by fall? If he does that he plays at 230 lbs. Even at that weight i'm not sure he should play too many early downs even though people are high on him. We know he can be fast and penetrate and make some plays. But there will have to be other run plays he just gets tossed around and we give up big plays. I just think its likely he's mostly a 3rd and long and 2nd and long type of DE.

DL rotation: If we get a guy like Goode who can play maybe 60% of the snaps in the middle spot, I think that could put Lockett in the middle maybe 30% of the snaps and Darton (down to 268 lbs) the other 10% share. And then Lockett could play DE for 40% of the other snaps, especially on earlier downs. Other snaps at that DE spot go to Geer at about 20% of snaps and Linton get the other 40% of the snaps. Okechukwu mans the other outside DE spot with Fuentes-Cundiff backing him up. Nolton and maybe Jacquez then gets some snaps here and there at the DE spots and if they progresses throughout the season maybe cut more into the rotation. If any injuries occur we see Fuentes-Cundiff and the freshman Nolton and Jacquez playing more.

To me that still seems a little light on bodies/talent and i'd like to bring in another 260-270 lbs DE with some talent along with a DT.

Good points. Linton is not a every down player. Not until he shows he can handle it physically. Im sure the staff has that all in mind when determining the rotation. Goode or any other experienced D lineman would help.

I appreciate the tip. Thank you. Thank you very much.

True. And I should have said Goode or Mesidor. I may even prefer getting Mesidor over Goode. But both would be awesome. I think Mesidor could play DT or DE in our scheme. Not sure if we have much of a shot with Mesidor though as he now apparently has offers from USC, Tennessee and Auburn.

Anyone have any news on Mesidor? Is he going to visit? Is he seriously interested in SU?

Mesidor is definitely the better of the two. He can play DE or DT. Well said.
