Duke in trouble at Clemson

We get to play a football national champion every year, even if we get destroyed.

But seriously, the ACC basketball coaches and league officials need to get some type of task force together to pull this league out of the dumpster before it becomes hopeless.
I thought we were leaving one bb league for another. Turns out that we left a bb league for a football league.

A Duke loss is better for us as it gives them less of a claim to the 1 seed in the east.
I think it's a toss up between me sitting at home on my couch, and duke for who has a better chance at the east 1 seed.

What I'm trying to say is duke has (essentially) no chance at the east 1 seed. They'll be lucky to be ranked on Monday.

And the ACC is really no better in football than the old Big East.

Florida State and Clemson and a lot of average teams.

problem with football was we let miami and va tech walk and never made notre douche join us all in.

But that was never going to happen. They had all the cards. And they helped us with bowl deals. The BE got as much from ND vis a vis football as they could.

Clemson's best win before this was against a 7-7 South Carolina team.

I watched them play earlier this week against FSU and was astonished at how badly both teams played. The ACC is ours for the taking and it won't be difficult.

"But that was never going to happen."

so i'd have dropped them after 2 seasons and let their sh#tty hoops and lacrosse programs twist in the wind

You really think we could have kept Miami and Va Tech from walking, any more than anyone was able to keep us from bolting?

If they did that, the BE would have had their champion playing in the Craptastic Bowl, and several bowl-eligible teams would have stayed home.

Problem was, the old Big East didn't have a Florida State and a Clemson.

Not long ago, FSU reeled off a number of 7-6 seasons and Clemson was ordinary.

These things go in cycles.

I think Miami could finish better then unc and give a run to equal duke, heck they already beat duke they are for real.

But who did the BE have, other than Louisville, who was good at the time? FSU and Clemson had/have a higher upside than most (if not all) of the old BE.

I'm interested in your theory on how the Big East - with absolutely no political leverage - was going to force Notre Dame - who had other conferences willing to take them on for all sports except football (like the ACC just did) and no interest at all in joining the Big East - to have no option except joining the Big East for football.

Or what exactly the Big East was going to do to force Miami and Virginia Tech to stay - sue them like UConn did? That went well.

The Big East leadership was a sh!tshow - things like not trying very hard to get Syracuse into a bowl game one year we were eligible and got left out was fantastically stupid and lazy, and showed that they didn't value football or the football programs of their member schools - but they had no leverage to prevent Miami or Va Tech from leaving or forcing ND to join.

...and they would have made a deal with the ACC and gone off with no damage, while the Big East lost the one tiny chip they had in negotiating for bowls - and would have imploded sooner.

Next.

We better hope that FSU and Clemson trip up a bit in the coming years or we'll never play for an ACC title or in a significant bowl in our lifetime.

At this point we should almost expect to go through the conference undefeated

Highly doubt that. Pitt will be real tough next week and Miami and Duke on the road will be a real challenge. I think we lose 3-4 conference games. But 27-4, 14-4 isn't too shabby.

i'm saying the ONLY way i would ever have let ND into the Big East was ALL IN. period. had they brought football then i imagine miami pitt and va tech wouldn't have bolted. irish instead got to have their cake and eat it too. they enjoyed the success and recruiting the BE offered their hoops and lax programs and in return gave us NOTHING. now we see the ACC taking the same sucker bet. sad really. screw notre douche!

edit: ps. they brought no friggin' bowl chip or leverage. they never even joined the conference!

I was being a bit tounge and cheek based on the general opinion of this thread, I agree but think four losses is too many
