All in.

Dont care if they were well off, or dirt poor. If we all did it every time we could? That'd be pretty cool.

On the other hand, I briefly thought I might have been a party to a recruiting violation in 2011. CherieHoop and I were wandering around the Dome prior to a basketball game, when Mike Hopkins introduced us to Trevor Cooney, who was there on his official recruiting visit. Cherie (who is a booster by virtue of her season tickets) was carrying an "Otto's Army" tee-shirt that some one had just given her.

Upon seeing the shirt, Trevor asked whether he could have it. Cherie said, of course, and immediately gave it to him.

Ever since then, Cher and I have wondered whether that giving him a $3 tee-shirt was a recruiting violation. (But since Mike could have given him all kinds of gear as part of an official recurring visit, we decided it was probably okay).

interesting. instead of wasting money on facilities, programs with money should just start buying cars and houses for players who do well. recruits will figure out the pattern no need for agreements.

it's like ex politicians taking cushy jobs in industries after taking care of them while in office. no need to risk getting traced, everyone knows what they're supposed to do without having to say or write anything

How do you think Laz Sims ended up with the job he threw away? Probably had nothing to do with '96 right?

I hope they start a gofundme we can all help and the NCAA can’t stop that.

Yeah this is a no brainer. The NCAA does some indefensible crap but no shot there is anything they do in response to a fanbase raising money for a former players sick parent. Not a lot of things that is beyond them but this is.

Yes, I didn’t think twice when I gave it to him but after the fact we did wonder if it could ever be an issue. My thought was that they were giving out the T-shirt’s free to fans as long as the supply lasted, so what value could they ever assign to those shirts anyways. :)

I’m sure there must be some kind of time limit? It doesn’t appear SU has an issue with the Tim Green benefits and donations.
Dungey may not be a player or on scholarship any longer but he is currently a student back at SU finishing his degree. Just saying it may be a shade of gray situation.

Yeah, I think it's no problem for that reason. If everybody gets one, the recruit can get one too. Pretty forward by Mr. Cooney, though!

My chief takeaway: I'm so glad I don't work in compliance at SU. Weitsman seems very generous, but I would hate to spend my days trying to police that kind of enthusiasm.

Can someone start a gofundme on the board so we can raise money for those medical bills?

Not really forward by Cooney at all. Otto’s Army or some group of kids were throwing shirts to the fans and we noticed Hop who was with Cooney standing about 5 feet in front of us. I then overheard the kid tell Hop and Cooney that they only had medium shirts left but since I had an extra large in hand , I just offered it to Cooney. Nice kid, thanked me.

Here's a Go Fund Me page set up by the family of Tiana Mangakahia (SU basketball player battling cancer)

That is the second time they started that gofundme. The first one shut down almost immediately months ago. Funny thing is there was a tweet today from someone who is in communications for the Athletic Dept saying boosters couldn't donate. The tweet has since disappeared.

Tricky, tricky.
You want to help but don’t want her to lose her eligibility nor send SU down the NCAA spiral again...

I was told that it is ok to donate. Sounds like the NCAA gave it's approval.

Great idea if someone here sets up a go fund me page please share the link on here
