Dungey...

Did HCSS say anything in his post-game presser? I haven't watched it yet.

He was evasive - just calling it an Upper Body Injury. He refuses to give specifics in the interest of protecting his players from other teams targeting those injuries, was the gist of his explanation.

He did claim Dungey seemed to be ok/laughing/joking in the locker room.

One kid does not make a team, but I watched the sidelines. These guys are cheap, dirty, and classless. They were all smiles after that injury.

Mr. Coyle, CMU should never be scheduled again. You should be witnessing the last of this matchup against a pi$$poor, classless, bush league chippewa squad. Let them rot in their pathetic conference.

Dungey, our thoughts are with you to get you back on the field in no time. You are the real deal!

Let's Go Orange!!!
I was sitting right behind CMU's bench on the first level. You're right they're a classless group. I've never seen so much BS after the whistle...especially number 7.

Syracuse football QB Eric Dungey 'in great spirits' after taking helmet-to-helmet hit, coach says (PS: Bailey)

Syracuse freshman quarterback Eric Dungey was upbeat after the Orange's 30-27 win against Central Michigan on Saturday.

Dungey, who left the game in the second quarter following a helmet-to-helmet hit, spoke with SU offensive coordinator Tim Lester after the game.

Lester said Dungey was asking about specific plays and reads that reserves Austin Wilson and Zack Mahoney made.

"He was in great spirits," Lester said.

Dungey appeared to be retaining the information and fully engaged, but Lester understands head injuries can show symptoms later in time.

Lester was unsure if Dungey had been diagnosed with a concussion.

"You never know," Lester said. "Tomorrow morning it could be a whole different world."

Ishmael suffers neck injury

Shafer said Ishmael, who did not play after halftime, was pulled from the game due to a neck injury.

"He got hit in the neck," Shafer said. "We're going to find out. They thought it was the safe thing to do by not putting him back in."

With due respect to Bonamego, nobody outside of Mount Pleasant that watches that replay is going to see it as "right on the wire." His statement feels more like a campaign to save Stanizek from being suspended from the next game - admittedly though, I do not know if the MAC reviews ejections.

That photo is from today......Last week it was raining, the 1st. game was at night. Just to clear it up as someone questioned the timing of the photo. Those are the same food containers that Brisley and Ish was carrying last week after the game. They had a car parked in the fine lot when I met them after the game.

Reading the CMU Board game thread, I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. Some of them were trying to rationalize the late hit/targeting. Amazing what homerism will blind people to.

Happens with every fan base, including this one.

That says it all. At least 2 steps away from Dungey after the ball was released, and he is completely upright.
Yep. The ball was WELL out by the time he actually lowered his head and shoulders and started going in to take a shot on Dungey. The ball is out in the image on the far left here.

Some OSU fan on reddit just pointed out to me that the first tackler on Dungey grabs and bends his leg after he's already down. It was blatant when i looked for it. Wow.

That was the photo I saw this afternoon. Glad to hear it was today. He looks really good. Now once again that does not mean much, but the fact that he was out among the public and taking photos is a very good sign. A sign that he was not at the hospital and was not being taken in some vehicle someplace but walking to a vehicle or back to his room. Hope the next 2 days do not show anything significant. I am fine with him missing the LSU game if that is what is best. We need this guy. He is our bowl game, and our future.

I know many will not like this comment but...we are speaking with a jaded opinion right now. Our QB got hammered on a horrible hit and was completely defenseless while taking it and to top it off looked to get horribly injured. I understand the reaction. Praying Dungey is all right after that brutal hit. But believe it or not I agree with their coaches comments and think coach Shafer would say the same if it was the other way around. We look at these stills afterwords and it looks much dirtier than it was. This kid is coming full bore flying in to get to the QB. Now you can tell he knows he is not going to prevent the pass from getting off as it is away just before he starts to lunge at him. What these pics do not show is how quick the timing was between them. When playing defense you know damn well you have a certain amount of time allowed to hit a QB with it being legal. I'm betting the timing between the ball being released and him him is somewhere between a half a second to a full second. I think this probably was a late hit but I don't think he was trying to injure Dungey per se. He was definitely trying to get a good lick on him which our guys would do as well. Dungy is falling and its pretty hard to get a hit on him and not hit him in the head in that situation. No way he knows he's as defenseless as he is at that moment with things moving so fast. That said with the new rules this year there is no doubt this is not targeting and he should have been ejected like he was. Hopefully the new rule starts to changes some defenders mentality of trying to get the extra lick on a QB to send a message. There is going to be many times when head to head was not intended but the player will get ejected. I'm sure this situation will hurt us soon and most likely this year with how often helmet to helmets happen. But I like the rule and hope it prevents some serious injuries. When a player tries to tackle a guy you want to come in right at the middle of him so you don't miss him. I have a feeling trying to get your head out of the way is much more difficult than most fans think.

After reading the CMU board and the ongoing threads about this hit I don't get the excuses or softening the view. If zaire did the exact thing to cooper rush i would be embarrassed to have an SU player conduct himself that way and fully support a hasher penalty. It was dirty and the cmu player had plenty of time to reduce the impact of the hit. If he can't control his momentum from that far out he shouldn't be on the field anyways.

Its scary how much they defend saying its just a football play. Respect to shafer and the team to take the high road but if im a chippewa fan i want no part of that kind of play or the possibility that the coaching staff put out a message to make sure you put dungey on the ground given how much he is impacting the game. We will likely never know if 44 was following instructions or just took it upon himself to throw a cheap shot but that was just a disgraceful play. I do not agree that if this was an SU lineman who hit cmu that many of us would excuse it.

That board is nuts. Of course SU players are gonna take the high road in an interview. I'm sure they were instructed. Shafers gonna be the same way. But the video and photos don't lie. Momentum matters but their guy was not so close that it was.a factor. There is a reason the player was tossed. If it was just a football play, he doesn't get tossed. Their coach is a fraud and the player a head hunter.

He led with the helmet. Plain and simple. No matter what part of Dungey's body he was aiming for or whether or not he was 1 or 20 seconds late in that hit.. Actually more injuries leading to paralysis happen to the player who was doing exactly what he was doing. It is often that person who is leading with the helmet who sustains the paralysis. So how dumb was this? Mr #44 could have ended up in a wheelchair himself.

Great point and legitimate questions, is there a way to contact Coyle and voice opinions about whether we should play CMU again?

No - he was the QB and he didn't have the ball. He was being tackled by another player. And the guy could have pulled up - he had time.

In OT there was a play where our RB was tackled and on the ground and a guy came in late and had a helmet to helmet.

I saw that and it happened again in the 4th also. Guy was on the ground play over and the kid came in head first at the ball carrier.

Police Academy 3 is on HBO right now. Probably not a coincidence.

1. He was no where near him when he threw the ball
2. He plants his feet and launches at Dungey with his helmet
3. He pushes threw with his hands/fists after hitting Dungey in the head
4. Tackler number one pulls on Dungey's leg when he is down
5. #44 snaps his leg back at Dungey's face when they are on the ground

No way these "random" events all happened on the same play to our best offensive player that was crushing them all day. CMU is classless and so is the coach, they should be ashamed for what they did.
