I'm not against Orgeron he just isn't the sexy pick. I'd prefer a younger coach but this isn't Greg Robinson .
I think this is more realistic than people realize.
I think this is a real long shot but I would love to believe this is the case. The issue I see in is that it means Coyle would not allow Frost to hand pick arguably the most important position on his staff? IF Coyle could sell Frost on the HC position, and in him taking EO, then I would feel very comfortable not only with the direction of the program but with Coyle running the show.I think this is more realistic than people realize.
No, I'm not kidding. You're kidding right? Am I the only one that thinks it is weird that we are trying to find the AHC/DC before the HC is named? Unless this process is already in the advanced stages and Frost has agreed in principle, how can Coyle be vetting his potential running-mates?
While it would be amazing if it happened, the HC should pick his staff, not the AD.
Anything is possible, but I think that would require an enthusiastic buy-in by Frost or whomever. Otherwise, I doubt we could hire anyone with stips on the composition of their staff. Observers view us as a coach killer program, which is why we are ranked near the bottom of the vacant HC opportunities. It is going to be a reach for anyone on the "list" as it is. That said, would be cool it it were to happen.I think this is more realistic than people realize.
I don't think EO is a viable P5 head coach candidate this time around, but a good 1-2 year stint as a AHC/DC would probably change that

Actually I think that would make the job more attractive. Instant high end recruiter has worked at that place before and SEC and PAC-12 HC experience to fall back on.
EO would have to swallow some pride but it as a short term stint to get him closer to his goal, its a win for him to.

Very good point. It is likely that Frost may know/connect with Ed O from their time in the PAC12 Overlapped.
I am guessing there is a very good chance that during one of the conversations Coyle has had with Frost/his Agent they have discussed this possibility. Perhaps Frost said that if he comes on as HC then he would be open to this. If so, then Coyle would not be picking the staff for the potential HC...You're kidding right? That may be our view, but not the media or coaching community. It is not likely to change until we actually, rather than prospectively, become competitive. Everyone has or is improving facilities and coaches can climb the ladder from AAC schools easier than from our division. The coach killer thing is in the past. When we were in the Big East i could see it. Now we are in the ACC we have a new IPF we have a very young team with solid talent we are about to turn the dome into one of the best venues in all of college sports and the east coast is open for business as Rutger, Maryland, and others are down. This is the reason that Coyle took the job. He will find a great coach and put together a world class staff. These guys are all in and it is going to show
This is not an easy hire.
My completely uneducated guess is that Orgeron's agent has been contacted to gauge interest, but Orgeron himself has not spoken directly with anyone from SU. I also think that Orgeron is making his interest clear, but also setting the expectation of what level job he's looking for (HC again, not a coordinator or line coach) knowing his days at LSU are numbered.
