Edinger

What is his role on the sideline? He seems to be within a few feet of Babers all the time. Does he watch the play clock and alert Dino when it hits 5 or something?

I actually see him talking to Babers during the game. Updates on exercise regimes?

Nothing. People need a whipping boy.
After several years of the team falling off the map in late fall, it’s not out of left field to stare down the conditioning staff after multiple replacements on the o and d coaching lineup.

Unless of course you’d like us to do the unthinkable and just blame Dino.

He whispers lines from Homer throughout the game.
Punt, no dont, TO, not yet, run, no pass,
Ok coach its over now. No we lost, time for school song. No sorry we are away

A trainer should be able to modify training programs/regimens depending on the needs of the team at any given time, however...

Wasn't his program (back when Dino took over) designed to take advantage of the no-huddle, OitNF style that we haven't run in years? It seemed to place a premium on cardiovascular conditioning above other traditional facets of conditioning (particularly with the OLine) - at least from memory.

If that was his bailiwick, even if he has modified his approach/program(s) to sync with the not-so-fast style that we have played...maybe it's now outside his area of expertise.

For all the talk about turf, Edinger, etc., it would help if everybody wore knee pads. Alford had to come out of the game after the play at the :20 mark:

We don't really know what he is having the kids do. It is totally possible that the training we are doing is resulting in injuries. But it is also possible that it has zero to do with him. It probably would be a good idea of JW to have an outside expert review what is going on in order to determine if S&C is a cause in any way.

That being said his resume is really weak for a P5 FB S&C coach.

I don’t think Edinger is an issue. To me, its our rest/recovery (along with roster/load management). That includes facilities such as Cryotherapy, infrared Sauna, Float Tanks, Normatec etc… take a look at Clemson’s facility for recovery. It’s a whole center dedicated to this.

Now I’ve had conversations with SU about implementing a facility like this. They are scared to death of Cryotherapy and the liability that comes with it. Which I find ridiculous.

In short, we need a Football Performance Recovery Center with the tools I listed above. This also includes a “Director of Football Athletic Recovery” or something along those lines. Sports Recovery is just as important as Strength and Conditioning in todays game.

Yeah, "bad luck" injuries like Jones's last night (bodies rolling up on your knees and such)...no program in the world is going to save you from those. It's just the 'body of work' over his tenure that really has me wondering how much his program is a factor.

I’m so confused. Turf, edinger, turf, edinger, dumb luck.
Dumb luck doesn’t happen 6 of 7 years.

Perhaps its not Edinger, maybe the program really isnt allocated the resources required to compete conditioning wise with the p5.

Im sure many here remember the 2019-2020 videos of Edinger and co teaching the players in the weight room what protein and carbs are lol

That stuff is embarrassing. Im glad we made a hire to address nutrition this year but if we’re going to make large scale investments on athletic infrastructure, we have to get the personnel too. Even before the move to the ACC, there’s no real excuse not to have professional level strength and conditioning staff, along with nutrition and PT.

Seems like we’re building a city without the people to maintain and live in it. Would be more comfortable readdressing the quality standards of our support staff before diving in on the major shiny new toys.

I hope everyone knows that I am not a fire everyone person, I am actually fine if we keep Babers, maybe a bit resigned to it. However, I can tell you that someone I trust a lot and who is level headed about things told me from firsthand knowledge that a LOT of players parents are not happy and are very concerned with S&C/nutrition and all the injuries in this program. Whether the kids of these parents agree I don’t know but it is a concern and I know Wildhack has been hearing about it. This is a problem, and it needs to be addressed

Be nice to have nutrition up to an FCS level. Scheduling had some kids going without eating, til afternoon, last year. (In part, because of University Pandemic policy not allowing them to eat on bus, in class, etc.) I don't see how that stuff is on E. A focus on nutrition, and giving the kids 10 minutes to eat, would go a long way.

That stuff is not on E, no question

I thought we hired a nutrition expert last month?
