Elijah Robinson to Texas A&M

Ohhhh no take my eyes but not our demoted d coordinator who gave up 70 to ND!

In fairness, the offense/special teams gave up 21 to start. But otherwise, yes, I agree with you. Seems like a good guy, but needs to move on.

I'd imagine his new position coach contract isn't DC money. Assistant coaches are typically on 2 or 1 year contracts, so I wouldn't be too worried about that.

I hope he does stay. He's clearly an elite position coach and recruiter (as evidenced by LSU wanting him and Texas A&M and USC before that).
Like others here, I am not sure about his credentials as an actual position coach. No question he can recruit, but if we keep Williams, and with Fran doing his thing, the talent will continue to come in. Now even with the demotion ERob was going to keep the AHC title, so that money gets freed up if we just hire a good DC and pay good-DC money. I'm OK with letting Nunz be the sole AHC if it comes to that.

With the portal about to open, we kinda need to have an announcement about the DL coaching in general because it was one of the two positions of need explicitly advertised by our recruiting staff on social media (along with safeties).

Fran better be getting after safeties. I'm sure some younger guys (Peal, Singleton, etc) can rotate in at safety but nut sure we have a thumper in that room currently.

ERob has done his best work with portal transfers. At DL coach I'm not sure who is a better option for us unless another SEC coach comes in and brings players with.

I don't think the DL room is as empty as some others here think. The Canadian guys are all plus athletes but needed a year or 2 to acclimate and some interesting prospects in this and last year's classes that are still unknowns. Perry will be back which was a big miss last year along with Jobity being banged up and Watson moving to Tejas.

We just really didn't have the dogs to run a 4-2-5 last year but dammit we were going to run it regardless!

It actually is if you’re going to hammer the defense.

90% of the problems this year result from the meltdown at Qb.

I’m not saying the defense was close to good, but they were also constantly put in bad spots by the offense.
D was not as bad as people think , off the top of my head We opened against SMU with 3 stops. and then the D faded, Led UNC 10 -6 at Half ( D scored the TD ) Got early stops in the Pitt and Miami games but with 0 offensive support and D faded . You hear coaches talk about complimentary football …….. We were the anti- complimentary team. The ND game the D hadn’t given up a yard and we were killing it on time of possession the first 7 minutes !!! Not saying they were good by any means but heck , look what they faced each week .

I mean as far as offers go, Rodgers, Wilson, Houston and Haskell might be the best high school dline haul in Syracuse history. Granted, I’m not sure who Elijah was responsible for but I am sure he was involved.

He was definitely on the sideline at a Kordae Houston game in Texas

He's a highly regarded DLine coach and recruiter. There's a reason Elko wanted him to stay and there's a reason Kiffin wants him. And it ain't just to recruit, there's no way Kiffin is going to disregard the DL coaching just for a recruiter. We want him out as the DC but it's a big loss with the other stuff.

I don't follow recruiting, but there's definitely a dichotomy in what's been said here that's hard to resolve.

People spent all season trashing the DL. No talent, terrible scheme, etc. And yet losing Robinson would be bad because of his DL coaching ability and recruiting chops.

I don't get it.

I don't really care what happens, everyone is replaceable in this sport. They have to be.

But I think there's a reason Texas A&M wanted him and now LSU wants him. In a role as a position coach, which is all he should have been here.

He coached the DTs, Willams had the DEs. I think he did a good job with Tank, Jobity and Perry was playing well too before the season ending injury. We started playing some true freshmen toward the end, Ogbebor played quite a bit well before he was ready. Guys like Thomas and Rooks just didn't work out. If E-Rob is to blame for that, so be it.

If he's going to be overpaid based on his previous title, then it makes a lot more sense to part ways. But I think the guy could be an asset on this staff with the downshift to position coach.

We have limited funds and can't pay what SEC schools can for DL/Recruiting coaches. It just is what it is, and if that is what ERob is then we are never going to be able to afford him. We took a stab at whether he could bring those talents and be a DC or not but he wasn't ready for that. So, back to being a DL/Recruiter, all things being equal, we would love to keep him, I imagine, because he is really good at those two things, but I would rather allocate our coaching resources to pay our DC more and get a better DC.
