Eric Dungey Heisman Watch

he wasn't invited was my point. He was the most dynamic qb in college that year and still wasn't popular enough nationally and/or our team wasn't top 5 to even get the attention of voters.

Dungey will have to pull off a Flutie like season (top 10 ranking, big wins vs clemson/nd) for him to even be remotely considered and be invited. I hope it happens but a 8 win season won't even wake anyone up.
The Heisman is very much about numbers. The eye test showed McNabb was the best QB that year, but at least 3 other QBs had bigger numbers. We have a much better QB number generating offense now than we had then. I'm not saying he will win it or that he is better than McNabb, just that he has a chance to be in the conversation with the system we have and how much we rely on him for offense. Texas A&M had 10 wins when Manziel won it. Maybe it would take 9 (I'll retract my 8) for people to keep talking about ED if he stays healthy and puts up huge numbers.

Manziel had a monster year the season he won. That Alabama game defined his legacy at the collegiate level. Overall, he threw for 3,400 yards with 24 TDs and ran for 1,181 yards with 19 TDs. Dungey will need a god level like year to be invited to New York. Upsetting Clemson at Death Valley will help a lot.

If we win 8-9 games and compete with Clemson and Notre Dame he could win.
Lamar Jackson won it on 9 win team l.
Same for the player Dungey is like Tim Tebow in 2010.
He needs a massive amount of rush yards and put up some good passing games and have more Air Dungey moments in game like he did at Virginia 3 years ago and when he mortal kombat kicked that Miami LB.

He's going to need better passing stats before we even worry about the number of wins.
To be honest I think health is the bigger concern. He'll put up numbers. But he took some big hits against WMU that if you add 15-20 lbs and a little higher speed contact could leave us starting the Devito era a year early. Good thing TD will get some PT against Wagner to shake a little more rust off.

Looks like that odds post was a typo and he's actually +8000 (so a lot better odds for someone looking to take a risk).

Still, surprising he's getting that sort of recognition. If he beats FSU, he'll probably get national hype.

Something similar to this at Notre dame

Before you determine how many wins he'll need you have to determine how many games he'll play. Another 8-9 game season won't do it.

And he has to have receivers that get open and catch the ball.

Well sure, and his ability to play 12 games will impact his numbers.

I guess my point was that even running for 100+ yards a game won't be nearly enough, he needs to have a high completion rate, tons of yards and tons of TDs. Like the Manziel #s that were posted up thread.

SU could win 10 games and he could play in all of them, but if his completion rate is 52% and he averages 185 passing yards a game it won't matter.

Luckily his career average was closer to 300yds per game at 65%

*in DFB offense when healthy

It's possible, but Lamar benefited from an insane amount of national coverage and publicity early in the year that made the award basically his to lose in like Week 4.

He had the nationally televised beatdown against us where he had those jaw dropping plays and leaps. The following week Louisville hosted Gameday and they beat #3 FSU by 40 points. And then 2 weeks later Louisville was featured on Gameday again at Clemson in a game that was decided in the final minutes.

8 TD (7pass, 1 run) vs 1 int in 6 quarters of action so far.

This week as mentioned will be huge. 109 on the ground and 278 in the air with 3+ TDs (like last year) will help.

Oh yeah and a double digit win.

ESPN showing some love

Yup.

But thats a pretty good list.

He needs stats AND big wins. Win this week, don't lose to Uconn/Pitt/UNC, and have 2 big prime wins like Clemson last year.

None of those guys can have ridiculously gaudy stats on undefeated teams of course. Dungey will be right there if he has 12 games of rushing and passing but they will be broken up. Have to hope someone like Greir doesn't have a TD-INT line like 30-4 and an 11-1 record. People will pick apart his pro potential but he'll get the credit he deserves for being an elite college player if he carries us to 8+ wins people know hes not on a super loaded team.

McNabb didn't have the eye popping numbers Dungey could end up getting. I think 8 wins with ridiculous numbers could keep him in the conversation.

Not if an ACC monster end takes him out for the rest of the season... again.

Screw the heisman... him just getting through a full season is what we need.

We beat FSU to start the momentum then when we beat ND and get 10 wins he gets invited to NY. Lock it up.
I love this post, and 10 wins would give him a chance. Honestly, Cuse isn’t winning 10 games. And that’s okay cause 8 would be phenomenal.

Tua at Alabama is eye poppingly good and Bama is going to win the Championship. Tua gets the Heisman if he stays healthy. Hands down.

You just changed the conversation. My comment is in relation to the OP and has nothing to do with what I think is best for the team.

Yes I did.

But the point stands... What sort of eye popping numbers are we talking about if he's sitting on the bench for the rest of the season injured?

Given his injury history, this heisman convo is silly...

Keeping him healthy is priority 1... Anything else is gravy.
