Eric White

He did a good job of talking with recruits, but he actually get any high profile recruits to come here? Not a huge lose for us.
I think its the coaching staff to pull in high profile recruits... Not sure he was out on the "trail" recruiting.. He worked from a social media stand point to really promote SU to prospects. I think he did a great job with the tools he had.

I understand his job, I'm just wondering why people are upset we are losing him. It's really not hard to talk to recruits over twitter or the phone...

The infatuation with EW is perplexing. The Director of Recruiting, who did not land any 4 or 5 star talent, or under the radar types who went on to become NFL draft picks (any round) was shown the door. Some of you folks are acting like SU fired Jim Boeheim.

It's a really an basic entry level job, which can be done by countless twenty somethings that are dying to get their foot in the door. He can stay or leave as it's like losing somebody who it would most likely take 2-3 days to replace.

Cleaning house is the only answer. Glad he hooked up with Maryland but really B--D. Who cares, just need some new grunt to twitter #dome dude all the time.

its a purely cultural thing, being able to connect with the youth of today in ways that most adults cant.

entry level job that didnt exist before him... its funny how many praises he got from this board over the years and now that he leaves the guy can be replaced by "countless twenty somethings" how quickly people turn

I thought Acosta was the Recruiting Director. Eric White was his social media director and a direct and available contact for many of the recruits (DMs Facebook and Twitter posts, mailers/graphics, etc.) I do not think he had any role in strategy or talent evaluation. I think as long as the new staff has a person adept enough in social media, PR, and promotions with the youth and inherent ability to connect with targets on more of a shoulder to shoulder or friend to friend level, then I am OK with this, but if not, this is a loss and we should not undervalue what he brought and did. Maryland can't be a rival because they are not good enough historically. We should only have rivalries with historically relevant programs in our conference.

Director of Recruiting Operations. He does not land anybody. His role was a support role for the recruiting director.

I am a little confused about his role with the program. The syracuse.com article made it seem different/ maybe more important, than what I have concluded from the threads here on our site. Either way I am excited about the new direction of the program is heading in and I am also happy another one of the "our guys" who worked hard here over the past few rocky years has found another place to hang his hat and earn a paycheck. :)

Which we can easily replace, we where way behind the times before him.

If my business unit underperforms, guess who gets the blame, the DIRECTOR of my business unit. As i said in my original post, the recruing under the FHCSS era was mediocre at best, right? Nothing exemplary, right? Therefore, the DIRECTOR deserves to share the blame.

And that was McD followed by Acosta. White was never the recruiting DIRECTOR. White was director of creating Memes and Twitter posts. Eventually Director of having others do that with him (see Cole Dial). As I said in a prior post, I think he can be replaced, but I think the apathy or dismissal by you and others is simply because you don't understand and are overestimating what his role was. He is a 30 year old kid from Kansas. He was helpful in publicly promoting the program on social media. That is a role and a facet that we didn't have prior to him. Thank you and Good luck to him (but not so much that he presents a challenge to us).

Probably because he was our very first, very visible recruiting employee, who was very active in social media and recruit visits. Prior to him, did anyone know who to follow or where to get recruit information. Plus, we was always one of the first "BOOM!"s.

I could do his job easily. If you have any experience working with clients and using photoshop that's all you really need. He was a good point of contact for recruits but if you think that he's irreplaceable I don't know what to tell you. You don't even need to pay someone to do that job. Just find a graphic design intern and you're golden.

no one is saying he is irreplaceable, he essentially created a position of importance in an effort to help with recruiting through social medias. Yes someone else can come in and do the job, but we should not understate the importance or even the positive effect he had. That really all this thread is about, sucks that the guy who pioneered this position is leaving.. Once again through the years this board has praised him pretty heavily..

it didn't exist before him because we were being run by nfl guys who didn't know how college recruiting works. Countless other programs in the county had EW's well before we did. So yes he can easily be replaced.

It was such a new concept to syracuse fans they fell in love with the kid. EW didn't invent anything that hadn't already been happening all over the country.

OK.. so simple question then, Do you believe that this position in which "countless other programs in the country had" is a position of importance?
Do you think EW filled that position successfully?
I would say yes to both questions, implying losing a guy who filled a position successfully that we lost sucks, which was my OP. pretty simple man
