Ervin Philips to slot receiver

Thought there was no slot receiver in 12 personnel ??

They talked about doing after the midway point last season, but decided against so he could get a fresh start with the new playbook

What? That makes no sense. He was probably the best RB last year.

If Estime or Broyld could stay healthy, maybe they don't make that move.

Must feel confident in the guys GM and McFarlane - or our incoming beast from NJ.

Making room for Strickland ;-)

12 personnel doesn't have to be 2 tight ends.. Slot, HBack, 12 personnel, the lines seem to be very blurry. Phillips is going to line up in he slot and sometimes motion into the back field and take handoffs. Ohio State was doing this. Catch passes, jet sweeps, line up in the backfield, slot screens, wheels. They're going to use him in a lot of different ways.

Makes sense when you consider the loss/attrition at WR this past season and the fact that we have no WR's set to come in for this year class. We desperately needed to get some speed at WR this is definitely the best option. Still shocked the staff isnt bringing in a WR this year, a very bad decision in my mind.

Excellent!! I was calling for this last season, and was hoping to see him moved there for the upcoming season. I really think this is his best position.

Get him the ball in space. I approve of this

Who would be our power back?

Not necessarily power back, but I expect DMC and GM to have the majority of snaps this year. Unless one of these kids coming is the real deal right away.

Shafer said he expects all recruits to be able to compete for playing time right away. All of the RBs will be given lots of looks.

I like it. I got some grief for noting he is pretty skinny for rb

Was I watching a different player than you guys? I think McFarlane has what it takes.

By mid season I think the rotation will be...

McF
Strickland
-----most of the carry

GM

Agree. He's ideal for a slot back. Can still get the ball on jet sweeps.

He was never going to line up at RB and get 20 carries per game. Wouldn't hold up.

Between Ishmael, Estime, Phillips, maybe (cough) Broyld, this shouldn't be the 150 yard, one good scoring drive offense that it ended the year as.

He would be a good comparable. Don't take it literally but I see similarities...

Hey Broyld is good. He almost scored a touchdown once

Yeah, I remember that time he thought about blocking.
