Expectations in Year 1

Since it’s 2026 I expect an immediate turn around if Gmac is the real deal. If Miami can go from 7 to 26 wins and UVA can go from 15 to 30 with new coaches there’s no reason why we can’t expect to win 25 games. I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but a reasonable expectation for me is to go 23-8, win 2 ACC tournament games and at least a game in March next year. We are spending money to win 20 games or sneak in as a bubble team.
Yup
my expectations are to be in the top 25 at some point past the New Year, and to make the tournament. I would love a top 6 seed in the ACC tournament too

Expectations on year 1? We talked about that!!!

Energy level ratcheted to 7! Urinal breaking energy,!

Minimum games on the Clock Wise channel!

But seriously, I want to see:

Top 4 seeds in the ACC tournament.

Solidly in the NCAA tournament with an at large bid, no bubbles no first four.

Playing meaningful games in January.

Makes progress as a team as the season progresses, no regression and quitting.
Urinal breaking energy was my garage band name in high school.

I believe both GMAC and Red can coach . Issue is Man management and Ego Management. A great example is Real Madrid when they had Beckham, Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Figo and others Galacticos on the team. Carlos Ancelotyi ( manager) was great at managing that team, not rally coaching. How you going to coach best players in the world who have the talents already. They have to buy in. Just like Mike in The Last Dance.

If Gerry can get people to buy in and produce wins. We are Dancing next March. Otherwise he’s just another coach who can’t manage his situation.

Disagree that red can coach. I believe it was clear that Autry did not do any elements of coaching well. We had mattress asking for examples of what actually was done well and the only positive mentioned was sort of a good high school recruiter

In 2 days Portal Pandemonium begins: 15 days of musical chairs.
Is there a documentary or book out yet that provides an inside look/perspective at what must be a pressure-packed, fast-moving, wild and stressful experience for those involved in making these huge decisions for top programs?
An inside look would be interesting, to say the least. Maybe a movie like "Draft Day" LOL.
A lot of research/etc, but seems like luck may play at least a small role getting puzzle pieces that together "strike gold".

My Year 1 Expectations: a well-coached team that plays like GMac with a strong and relentless will to win.
Hope that the talent acquired during Portal Pandemonium = lots of W's with that!

Jokes aside I think with the staff being assembled plus whoever is GM is going to make it hard for people to hate. We’ve not had this kind of talent on the staff or connections since Hop and Weaver.

My expectation is that a good portion of the board will hate him as coach before 2026 ends.
Probably because I don’t think he is going to go for flashy unless it’s the good version of flashy. The good version of flashy probably has suitors with a more proven track record and reputation at this level. GMAC may have issues year 1 getting the best of the right players until he shows proof of product at the high major level to get in on the good version of flashy, which is ok. Basically what I’m saying, I would rather GMAC not spend all the money he has if he can’t get the good version of flashy players and spend less on average players with the right work ethic than spend all of it on the bad version of flashy. We will find out, but year 1 is all about establishing a culture that’s priority number 1 imo.

None of it matters unless we land elite talent and are near the top of the ACC come February. Just sayin'.

No offense but priority 1 is using the massive influx of money to assemble a top-flight roster and win games.

You know what breeds good culture? Winning.

Everything else is the kind of thing people use as excuses when the team isn't winning. No one talked about "culture" from 2009 to 2014.

Elite talent that fits. I suspect when we take the 6th ranked vs 3rd in the portal at a specific position as an example people will be mad. Hopefully we recognize the issues you run into with a player like George but knee jerk will be coming far before games are played.

I'll be honest, all this "work ethic" stuff is already driving me nuts. The biggest problem last season was that the HC was inept. The team could have practiced 18 hours a day and it wouldn't have mattered, because the HC didn't know how to teach them.

It'll be nice if Gerry makes them "accountable" and all that stuff. But the most important thing, by a country mile, is that he assembles elite talent and has the coaching chops to win.

I agree about fit. I doubt anyone will be mad about any player we sign. Everyone is going to find ways to proclaim everyone potentially great. Which is fine, people are dying to be optimistic. I just don't expect much clear-eyed analysis here for the next few weeks.

It’s not just the work ethic with this staff is the talent and connections they have added by bringing them in. Yes effort and intensity matter. Adding 3 well regarded and 2 up and coming minds with bright futures is setting the table to be effective in roster building and coaching chops.
