Favorite Opposing Fan Bases

LSU fans in Baton Rouge were unbelievable.
I couldn't believe how nice they were. Walking out of the stadium people were just walking up to me congratulating me for a game well played. I was like, "I didn't really do anything. I just drank beer and sweated my ass off all day. But you're welcome!"

I've been to more of our games against Nova in Philly than I can keep straight. My one consistent takeaway is that Nova Nation (all 4.2 square miles of it) is populated with dimwitted Main Line d-bags and underaged rich kids who couldn't sniff an ivy. This latter group quaffs Bud Light by the truckload and then empties their stomachs in the parking lot post game.

Two highlights from over 30 years of attending these games:

The Nova fan in a monster truck who got tired of waiting for a large group of happy 'Cuse fans on foot to get through an intersection outside the arena. He decided to try to push us out of the way with his giant truck. He was immediately surrounded by orange and jeered mercilessly until we got bored with him.

A group of 8-10 students who ran up to us in the parking lot post game, formed a circle around us and began flipping us off and yelling you! you! There were 4 kids in our group 12 and under. Needless to say, they were terrified. Fortunately they scattered as quickly as they materialized or it would have been uglier.

That's just two out of many.

UCon fans may be even worse, but I live here.

Favorite fan base? Nah. Don't have one. Don't much care for any of them.

Philly Eagles fans who can add

That one hot Duke chick at the dome, she was aight.

I was at the last Cuse @ Maryland ACC game, flash mob at the half...that was fun...the fans not so much esp after they lose.

While in school I remember hating the Cornell students who would come up for the game. They were d bags. Chanting “it’s alright, it’s ok, you’re gonna work for us someday”. Pissed me off at the time, but sadly accurate.
reminded me of when the Brown fans (at the dome for the NCAA tournament one year) started chanting- "we're having fun" as they were getting beat.

For me, UVA is the epitome of a program that I want to hate but just can't. They're frustrating to have to play all the time, but we've caused them some pain too, and their fans have always been classy. Tony Bennett also seems like pure class, so it's hard to hate them.

I also went to a game there in 2007 and was treated well despite being a loud (respectful, but loud) opposing fan in the lower bowl surrounded by UVA fans. I was standing up cheering after our big buckets, and nobody so much as yelled at me to sit down. That said, part of the respectful part was always being back down in my seat before they were into the front court so I wasn't blocking people's views.

Like if their fans were even slightly rude, I'd easily loathe the program. Instead, I respect them, and root for them in the NCAAs if it doesn't impact us.
Yeah, UVA is borderline Ivy. Thomas Jefferson wanted it that way.

So, while the WVU fans are a mixed bag -
I do hafta say, we had a TON of fun sitting amongst them for the 6OT game in the BET.

Had 2 rows of them right behind us, and in the first game it was eers vs. Pitt, then SU vs UConn.
We made them a deal that we'd root for them to beat Pitt, if they'd root for us to beat Storz.

Many of them had never been to NYC before, or to a game at MSG.

Needless to say - both teams won, and both fanbases had an EPIC experience.

My arm and hand was sore from all the high-fiving, and I lost my voice for a day after that too.
Killer hangover on zero sleep made for a rough next 2 days.

TOTALLY. WORTH. IT.

One of my favorite away games. First, the tailgate scene in the SEC is unreal. Got invited to one group before the game. Lots of joking, making fun of other SEC schools, and some keg stands for "hazing."

Not to mention proximity to NOLA

Living in the Raleigh area, would agree that Duke is the worst. The good part is they are mostly hated locally too. As an out of towner, you would think NC State is automatically the best fit, but they have been the most obnoxious at actual games. Must be the inferiority complex. UNC may be my favorite. They are very quick to get on your side when Cuse plays Duke, and had a good experience in the Dean dome there.

I've heard Nortwestern fans like that cheer at a lot of the B1G games.

Before we even shut our car doors we had people over with a plate of food to invite us to their on campus house for drinks and a full spread. Then the walk through campus where we were stopped for basically every tailgate we passed - many included other SU fans equally brought into the fun. That was a really fun day and would love to do another SEC game just for that experience.

I had the same experience. Many of them saying how they respected our team and they'll be rooting for us the rest of the way. We were also welcomed into a few of their tailgates as we walked around. My best away game experience so far.

I wonder how different that would have been if we had won. My wife went to Auburn. Her guy friends wouldn't let their girl friends go to LSU when Auburn played them away because of how the fans get.

Funny hearing all this praise for LSU fans. My former boss is an Ole' Miss alum. When he and his buddies get together for a game they usually go the LSU game in Baton Rouge because they have so much fun with the LSU fans. That place must be wild.

When I was stationed at Fort Benning, GA, Auburn was within pass radius and I spent many a fun weekend at my fraternity's chapter house there. I was able to go the Auburn Syracuse game and it was incredible. Everyone was very nice. There really is something to Southern hospitality.

I know their alumni band wasn't too fond of us when we were going crazy behind them.

It was a very strange vibe inside that stadium. It felt like a preseason NFL game where the crowd is mostly full at kickoff but is half-full by the second half. I don't know if the LSU fans just weren't taking it seriously or if they were disinterested due to being beaten pretty bad the week before.

I thought they left the game to go tailgate more.

Rutgers fans were nice back in the 1870s not so much since. I was born orange and I hate UCONN and Georgetown. (I hate them so much I had to have the wife type their names in)

Who’s yours? Two categories, genuine/most pleasant favorite fan base, and favorite villain opposing fan base.

Genuinely admire/appreciate: UVA and SDSU

Id brawl with them then maybe share a beer or 40: WVU, Uconn and Kansas

Dukies prefer seltzers and I can’t stoop there
In the Dome, Georgetown fans were always the worst. At MSG, hands down UConn punks were the worst. At the Final Four in Atlanta, Louisville fans were the worst entitled hayseeds you could endure, Wichita State fans were barely evident, but they do have the suggestive hand gesture going for them, and Michigan fans were actually pretty cool I thought. They had a big presence, and at times half the stadium was singing their fight song along with the band. It felt like a Saturday afternoon in their football stadium. I also have attended a Seton Hall game at the Prudential center, they are terrible fans, jealous wannabes to the core. To answer the question, favorite villian would have to be Duke, love to spoil their priveleged seasons, though it doesn't happen enough, and most pleasant I'll go with Miami. Win or lose, they live in paradise. and after the game, who cares. South Beach

Ouch

Ville have good fans but I am sick of playing them so much in both sports.

And I definitely like Clemson fans considering how big of a program they are.

I don't like many teams tbh. I like Providence of any ex foes from the Big East and I like the Mountain West and Big 12 as leagues with good fanbases for the most part.

Can’t stand most Michigan fans- most were really obnoxious towards our group after their 2013 victory over us at the final four in Atlanta- since then I root against them every time
