FBI arrests Assistant Basketball Coaches in Corruption Scheme

We're like 30 steps from this happening, but I think this helps strengthen the case for letting players profit from their own name and likeness.
Most other issues take care of themselves if we just allow this. All other scholarship students can do it, but not athletes.

The lawsuit Chris Speilman filed against Ohio State is way more relevant on that issue than this one.

This one is strictly a bribery case against assistant coaches funneling their players to agents paying off assistants.

We know Boeheim stays out of this so I think we are fine.

If neither Kentucky nor Duke are implicated in all this the whole thing is a complete sham.

Given the schools involved the NCAA tournament could be a lot lighter the next few years if NCAA follows up with privations which I don't see how they couldn't. NCAA better start posting job reqs on linked in.

Really? I mean, I liked him well enough, but I think he later said that part of the reason for the transfer was that he'd been spending too much time running wild with Damone and DeShaun.

Anyway (with regard to the whole story, not Tony Bland) this is all very unsurprising. The only strange thing is that the feds are pursuing this. But it's a dirty game and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I didn't remember that part. I thought there was a real family situation that caused him to go back west but he wanted to stay. But I might be totally wrong. I'm far from an insider. Just thought that was what I remembered from reading the various boards over the year.

Mentions enough that you can figure it out. Location, public vs. private, number of schools...I havent finished but I'm concerned about the Miami one. It's a 2018 recruit and specifically mentions a University-4 offering similar money and it's sponsored by a competing apparel company...this is all from August (last month)...so if carey it'd be us or uconn.
Miami has been recruiting a handful of other higher ranked players than Carey, so let's hope for the best here...

Maybe someone else can figure out -- my mind is hurting from all the anonymous mentions. Given how we routinely have missed out on top guys choosing the mysterious other teams last minute, I'd have a hard time believing we were paying money...because we werent even getting the guys.

This should be death penalty territory for Arizona, USC, Auburn and Ok State.

That's why I said this is like 30 steps away.

But if prospects are getting funneled places anyway, probably doesn't hurt to look at how to make it all above board.

So... dumb question, and no, I haven't had the chance to read any articles yet, but why is this in the jurisdiction of the FBI?

I could be off on my recollection, too (it's been awhile). And there're always multiple factors involved with transfers. But he was cool, sorry to hear about this business.

So adding Miami and louisville to this list leaves one more school correct?

Wire fraud's a federal crime. Someone must've got hurt feelings and blown all these people in. Maybe after the NCAA dragged its feet.

As I was giddily explaining this to my attorney wife, that was her first question too. Building to something bigger.

Likely also due to the fact this all happens across several states and companies.

Rick Pitino has coached his last game.

Being that they are currently on probation, and allegedly have them on tape, they'd have to look into the death penalty for UL, right?

Absolutely. Except...

I don't think the NCAA is in the business of handing out the death penalty anymore. We'll see. If there's ever a reason to give one, this is it. But when $$$$ conflicts with doing the right thing, we know which way they and the conference will run.

Wow. Crazy stuff. Not sure the NCAA will or can do anything, right? All these coaches will be fired and possibly a guy like Pitino but the programs won't be punished will they?
