FHCDM and tension in Buffalo

You don't even know who the new owner is!!! Like I said, name the last "new owner" who kept his head coach. You can't. They all get fired! He's getting fired.

9-7 in the NFL is crap. I don't care what city its in. You talk about Buffalo as it's some magical place or where "regular NFL standards" don't apply and they got special ways of doing things. When you trade away next years #1 draft pick you better win double digit games and go far in the playoffs.. Being at or around .500 isn't good enough its garbage!

If Pegula is the winning bidder I would be willing to bet he doesn't clean house right away and waits a year. He did the same when he bought the Sabres.

hi haters!

Based on the news this week wouldn't it be FU you M'Fers.

Saint Doug is falling into the same conservative play calling trap he did here his first several years. If the Bills had maintained the same aggressive play calling in the second half as in the first the game might not have needed over time. He shut it down after EJ's interception.

Great to win on the road. The team is very close to turning the corner but so was Syracuse many times only to lay an egg the following week. I hope the Bills follow this up by beating a suddenly good looking dolphins team. They have to start winning AFC east games.

My neighbors here in Northern Illinois are not happy but I definitely am. Saint Doug does it!

Play calling. Yeesh.

I would argue the opposite about Pegula based on his experience with Darcy Regier (Sabres GM).

He kept Darcy way too long and only canned him after it was clear his promise of competing for the Stanley Cup by year 3 wasn't gonna happen.

I seriously doubt he makes the same mistake twice especially considering he's a Sabres superfan and not as emotionally vested in the Bills.

Do you mean Cool Kid was a safety choice?

No idea.

Question was whether Hackett was the desired OC. I thought for some reason he wasn't, but the top two on Marrone's order did not come through.

Bills: 6 - 10

they always get the early season W to get the base fired up

I didn't want to be the one to say it, but that's true. All of us Bills fans have been here before. But I'll still enjoy it!

You know, the only thing about this story that really bothered me was the part about him calling himself Saint Doug for the miracle of winning at Syracuse. If you are a Syracuse fan, and believe that he said that, it should piss you off. We all get the challenges, especially what he walked in to, but that stuff doesn't need to be said.

Glad he did what he did for us, and glad he donates money, but other than that, I'd rather he just stop talking about us altogether. With alums like that...

Outside of that, I hope he wins, and wins often, with the Bills. (as a Bills fan).

I would rather have Beckham and have next years #1 pick (Which might be a TOP 3 overall pick) than Sammy Watkins (who is also currently hurt and dinged up) and not have a pick till in the 30's next year. Trading up in Round 1 for a WR in the NFL is a mistake. It was a huge mistake. Trade up for a QB, a LT, a DE, a DT...ok. Premier positions that have more value than a WR. You can find WR's anywhere in the draft.

NO NFL head coach survives when change of ownership takes place. Doug is a dead man walking. History just shows that. In Cleveland, Jax, Miami...all recent ownership changes the standing head coach was FIRED. Go back a little further, Atlanta, Dallas, Jets, Minnesota...new owner, fires head coach and brings in his people. Same will happen in Buffalo. It always happens in the NFL..just look it up!

giants won't be that bad 7-9 at worst after seeing dallas and washington

I thought the Bills had a nice gameplan today. Kudos to Marrone, Hack and Schwartz for calling a good game and a big up to Manuel, Williams & Co for executing.

This coming from a GMen fan, but love seeing Marrone win.

Well, here I am too take any punishment I deserve.

Glad you got the win Jeremy. I'm expecting a rough year for my Bears, I thought the Bills looked pretty good.
The Bears D leaves a lot to be desired... beyond that Cutler was Cutler... good for a few great plays and a few dumb ones every game.

I think this game turned on two things for the Bears:
- Alshon getting hurt
- Trestman getting too pass happy. He should have never taken the ball of out of Forte's hands in the OT

Beyond that both teams were pretty well matched... not sure either team will make the playoffs but both should be at least competitive. As a Bills fan I'll take it.

Cutler is just ok. Good enough to not get rid of but they are going nowhere with him. Manuel was pretty good.

The Bears will never ever win a Super Bowl with Cutler. He makes so many horrible passes, the guy can't help but get picked off a couple of times every game. I see them every week and nothing has changed. Nice win for the Bills and DM

I think Manuel was ok but it's pretty clear that Hackett and Marrone don't trust him. Manuel is still inaccurate for my taste... Woods/Williams/Watkins had to make some amazing catches because EJ threw high. Also he has to connect on those deep passes like he overthrew to Watkins. Those are the passes that good QBs just have to make. I think the only thing that separates EJ from being a 10 year starters is his accuracy... fix that and the job is his for the next decade.

Yea, the only bright side is that he overthrows those deep routes to Watkins and Goodwin. It takes a serious arm to accomplish that. Dial up the accuracy and I agree, he's got everything you want a QB to have.

CHICAGO -- Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone sensed a "different" feeling from his team prior to Sunday's 23-20 overtime win over the Chicago Bears.

Now we may know one reason why.

Manuel
According to several players in the locker room, second-year quarterback EJ Manuel stopped an offensive meeting at the Bills' team hotel Saturday evening and gave a speech -- considered by one teammate to be out of character for Manuel -- that aimed to rally an offense that has been the subject of criticism in recent weeks.

It started when coordinator Nate Hackett was speaking to his group, one that finished near the bottom of the league in several statistical categories this preseason.

"He told Hackett, 'Hold on, I got something to say,'" wide receiver Robert Woods said of Manuel. "And he stood up in front of the whole offense. Had everyone's ears about five minutes. Shut the whole meeting down pretty much. There was nothing else that needed to be said after he spoke."

Players said Manuel wanted the offense to hold together even as it faced more and more scrutiny.

"He was just letting us know that it was pretty much us against the world, that we were the underdogs," running back Anthony Dixon said. "I know they had [the Bears] picked [as the] favorite. He was just saying that we [are] all we got. Basically we [are] all we need. We know we can win. We know we can compete against the best teams."

"We were fired up. We've taken a lot of heat lately. I think it all culminated in the past couple days," center Eric Wood said. "I think we were kind of fed up with everybody talking about us as poorly as they were."

"[He] just released what he felt about this offense and what we could do, all these weapons," Woods added.

It was the first time that Dixon, who arrived as a free agent in the spring, has seen that side of Manuel's personality.

"We fed off that," Dixon said. "I'm looking forward to seeing that same person all the time now."

"That just carried over today. He spoke to the team again," Woods said. "The same energy, confident. He has everyone in this room believing in him, rocking with him."

Manuel went 16-for-22 passing for 173 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He didn't light up the box score, but Manuel had the sort of managed, controlled performance that the Bills needed as they endured a second-half rally from the Bears to send the game into overtime.

After all, hanging tough was part of Manuel's message Saturday night.

"He just wanted us to know that we need to stick together no matter what happened," Dixon said. "No matter what type of adversity hit when we get out there. We need to stick together and just keep grinding, just keep fighting."
