Fire Autry

I'm not saying it's going to happen, but there is a first for everything. Though, that window where it would make sense to make Dan Engelstad the interim to me is closing. Once ACC play starts you let it play out no matter what. But if your going to cut ties you do it before Clemson. The quality of play has decreased significantly since Tennessee.

I can assure you Red isn't getting fired mid-season no matter what happens between now and ACC play unless there is some sort of off the court scandal etc. It's not the Syracuse way.

I was waiting for this stupid post. There is no NIL excuse this year like their was last year. We increased our salary cap a large amount last offseason. The talent recruited here was still in the top 10-20 of most all recruiting services this past offseason. There's 5 former top 50 HS players on the roster FFS. That is more than we had in 2013. I personally would have cut bait with a current player, but reasonable minds can disagree.

We have multiple transfers playing worse for us than they did at their previous stops and those stops weren't Delaware or Hofstra who by the way had the best player on the court the other night. And we aren't playing hard enough.

BTW this guy has won two national championships with teams with a talent profile that is on par or even less than this current Syracuse roster. If your top 30 in talent composite which Syracuse is, it comes down to development, system, and scrappiness. We are probably one of or if not the worst in that department amongst our peers. The system being more of the problem. Unless they are just making us crazy right now and waiting for the time to roll out the system that involves maximizing the talent of the players. This is not ok. From fans, to the team, the coaching staff, and the athletic department, the success for any northeastern athletic program starts with scrappiness. As a collective, we used to have it, some still do, but a lot of people have given up with this mentality for Syracuse. For Autry, stop talking about it, do it, your the leader. Demand it from your team, but also the coaching staff, fans, and the AD.

Correct but it doesn't mean it shouldn't. Realistically, he should have been fired after last season. It was clear he has no concept of coaching at this level. We have no real offensive or defensive system. We roll the ball out and let them play. That is why Red only speaks about effort and not Xs and Os it is because we have none. His answer to everything is play harder...

Our offense is fine? We are 118th?

On defense, even last night, they had 1 player. Did we ever adjust to anything? Why not hard trap him and get the ball out of his hands? We never make any actual basketball adjustments besides switching Kingz to whoever the guy is that is scoring for the other team.
Hofstra ran high ball screen with Davis and killed us over and over again. Did we ever hard trap the screen to get the ball out of his hands? No we did nothing. It has been clear since the second season that Red can't coach at this level because he has no concepts on Xs and Os, makes no adjustments or game plans to combat the teams we are playing, and only speaks to effort. Those are clear clear red flags for any coach.

If our AD hadn’t pushed him out then JB would still be the coach. And we’d still be a mediocrity with JB not recruiting or putting any effort in at practice.

JB is the last thing we need now.

I'll add that if JB had remained, we wouldn't have gotten JJ, Freeman, and several others.

The decline would have continued a downward spiral across 2023 and 2024. Also keep in mind that throughout his final year, JB made a bunch of embarrasing / semi-controversial comments that the sports media was lambasting him on with regularity.

We needed to make a clean break. Step 1 was forcing him to abdicate. Wildhack made that happen [within days of JB proclaiming after yet another first round loss in the ACCT that nobody was going to force him out, and he'd only leave when he was damn ready]. Step 2 was reversing the program's decline. We did not do that by making a continuity hire, promoting an unqualified candidate.

I'm not defending Red, I fully anticipate a new guy on the bench next year. My point was there's no point in wishing for something that's never going to happen.

On par or less talent than SU? Are you mad?

They’ve had three lottery picks on those two teams and 9 total guys who’ve seen action in the NBA. This roster has none that I can see.

Development through a good system

I agree that Red needs to go. He will be gone and we will see where we go from here. I would love nothing more than Syracuse basketball to make a good hire and spend money smartly in NIL and be good again. Sorry for being stupid.

If Red gets the blame for George and Kingz playing worse than they did at previous schools, does he get the credit for Kyle playing significantly better?

I have liked what Kingz is doing outside of 3 point shooting. He was in the West Coast Conference before and I think is playing against better competition. I think when things have gone as bad as they have over the last few years with Red he probably doesn't get much credit for the few good things since there are so many bad.

Interestingly enough on the radio today Autry in between his usual dips and juice crap made a quick comment how they can’t let their bad offense lead to bad defense.

Thats what my best guess was for this latest 3 game regression.

The offense is terrible, the players and coaches are frustrated and now it’s leaking into the defense. At this point it’s inexcusable on the coach and the players.

That would make sense if conference play had started. He’s 12-36 against the cupcakes we’ve played.

William Kyle said red isn’t stressing free throws or offense to them… wow
The fact that Red made a point to say we fixed the free throws because of 1 game, just shows his incompetence. He truly felt that because we didn’t shoot 50% in one game, he did his job as a coach. Axe and others seemingly laughed at him after this back and forth.

Not saying youre lying by any means, but where did he say this? I'd like to read the rest of the comments haha.

JB could be exhausting. Years of needlessly controversial comments for absolutely no reason. It was fine and funny and entertaining when he was winning, but when he was losing he just sounded like a sad old man unwilling to see that his time had passed. And I get that. There are aspects of being middle aged that I hate, I'm dreading getting even older.

I also understand why it had to be Red. But we need a clean break. We need someone who has never stepped foot in the Dome unless it was to coach against us. Completely new blood, new way of thinking and who understands NIL and modern college basketball. I'd like to look at UConn's top assistant. There are kids today that would probably laugh if they were told that Syracuse and UConn were peers for a long time and at the same level and had one of the classic games in all of college basketball history. I think we should try to do what UConn does, because they have it figured out.

Kyle has been great. I was bullish on him coming in. I still think Kingz will be fine. I am really concerned about George.
On offense they need to use players that are inside threats (Sadiq White, JJ Starling, Donnie Freeman (if he comes back), and Kiyan Anthony to set screens in spots where Betsey and Kingz can shoot a high percentage from the outside where George can deliver them the ball. These screens should create havoc in the middle of the floor and also open up a lob threat for Kyle or Souare when they are in the game. It could also open space up for the 4 screeners to work the driving lanes for George to dish the ball if the defense sells out too much on a Betsey or Kingz. In the most highly efficient offense for this team, 3s from Starling, Anthony, and Freeman should only be in transition or select isolation moments. And for White if they are literally giving him the space for 3s. That’s how it would look if you’re building the offense around George passing, but we seem to have elected to not do that. It’s up to George to figure out where our shot makers like the ball to make some moves and hopefully hit medium to low percentage shots.

UConn has recruited very well and they have a very good coach

We have recruited OK and we have a coach

UConn's 2 recent national title teams had far superior talent than this year's syracuse team both because of the recruits brought in & the development
They are recruiting at there highest level right now and probably have their most talented roster under Hurley this season. I would actually be stunned if they don’t cut down the nets again at the end of the season because they really have everything, though some other very good teams at the top of the sport this season. Their national championship teams had 1 5 star between the two teams (Stephon Castle). Development via good systems. They have some guys succeeding at the next level that would’ve never gotten there without it. Maybe Syracuse has a click it moment which at this point would be out of no where. But this narrative around talent deficiencies at Syracuse to compete at the top of the sport is objectively false after the talent infusion this past offseason. We underperformed in year 1 and 2 as well with what we had, though not the level of talent we have this season.

Just bet them at +900 thanks to you!

I made medium bucks on their last two championships, so at least it gets me something out of it.

Their. Multiple times. We haven’t had UConns level of talent in well over a decade. Or their development.

I hope I’m wrong, I take no pleasure in watching them win nattys, though they have a fun and entertaining product to watch. But yeah mentally preparing for them to get number 7, be pleasantly surprised if it doesn’t happen.
