Fire Autry

I'll add that if JB had remained, we wouldn't have gotten JJ, Freeman, and several others.
I love JJ, but how many NCAAT wins does our entire roster have - collectively - right now?

We absolutely should have made the tourney in 23-24, but Red couldn’t coach then, either.

And milk doesn’t get better with age. It’s perishable.

William Kyle said red isn’t stressing free throws or offense to them… wow
Get him out of here now, I don’t care that it’s mid season. Those are 2 of your biggest issues and you’re not stressing those as a D1 head coach at Syracuse University? We’ve fallen so far, wow.

Kyle has been great. I was bullish on him coming in. I still think Kingz will be fine. I am really concerned about George.
Kingz has been great defensively and has been coming along offensively, he’ll be fine.

I think there is definitely a disconnect on the kinds of results the talent level should equate too. Like I think we are all in agreement that from most talented roster to least talented it goes 2025-2026>2023-2024>2024-2025. But I definitely felt in both 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 while the ceiling wasn’t that high, I thought 2023-2024 had enough talent to be a first weekend tournament team and 2024-2025 had enough talent to have a winning record. This season there is enough talent to be a second weekend team in the NCAAT at least (we are so far from that though right now).

Would you say the recruiting services are overrating our players?
No idea. Don’t follow them. Just know UConn frequently plays in late March and early April and Syracuse does not.

Oh, I agree 100% [you'll note I didn't list Chance Westry].

But I listed that because that initial burst on the recruiting trail is the main reason why people got excited about Red. I.E., he's going to bring in the talent we've been lacking.

If JB had stayed, we would have continued to under-recruit, and the performance would have continued to slip. No doubt whatsoever.

I hope I’m wrong, I take no pleasure in watching them win nattys, though they have a fun and entertaining product to watch. But yeah mentally preparing for them to get number 7, be pleasantly surprised if it doesn’t happen.
Their 3rd and 4th hurt me, but at this point they've lapped us so many times it doesn't feel like a rivalry, its like how the dregs of the Big East thought we were their rival. I'd rather a northeast team win than a traditional blue blood that won half their titles when you needed 3 games and only 30 teams cared about basketball.

This is just delusional

No benefit to firing Red mid-season and won't happen. JW is making phone calls now, no worries. Don't think it should happen, but if it did, honestly I wonder if our portal recruiting nerd would do the best job.

Hiring jocks who dedicate their life to playing basketball isn't as good as hiring nerds who dedicate their life to basketball. JB was more like a nerd despite his playing career. Highly intelligent. Look around at who has been fired in college basketball the last few years. Good handful of formerly great players who maybe just aren't smart enough to be a great coach too. Red has never made a technical comment in a post-game press conference. All just generalities. That was one of my first red flags in year 1.

Hurley early teams looked like ours except they played harder before he hired Luke Murray.
No one could have predicted their success under Hurley, but it was night and day in year 1 after Ollie. I thought they'd be back in the top 25. Didn't expect them to rule college basketball.

Not that it really matters, but he was 35-29 his first two years. Those teams did play very hard, but they couldn’t score at all. I remember them grumbling when they lost in year 3 in the first round to Maryland scoring like 50 points. It was after that season in 2021 they hired Murray to install an offense. That’s when he really took off.

That was the most confusing presser I’ve ever listened to in my life. He has no idea what he’s saying and neither does anyone else
the noise is getting to him and its getting to the players too and its eroding what they are trying to accomplish

i know everyone just acts like they can say anything or whatever and it shouldnt affect the team but it does

im not saying people cant say what they want but a lot of the stuff onnline is very aggressive and mean...way beyond level 5, imo

the players and coaches want to be adored by the fans they are doing it for the love and respect etc...and they are trying...and to not get that makes it hard and erodes motivation imo...and thats why you saw the performance as it was vs mercyherst imo...its just basic psychology

This team is pressing big time. They can’t ignore all the negative noise coming out about the coach and the team. You can tell Red is trying to isolate them a little, but they hear it. It’s time the Fire Red posts go away. It serves no purpose other than to make some fans feel better about themselves. Whatever happens will take place when the season is over. The constant harping is annoying and mean spirited.

He's been there way longer than I remember. That Murray guy sounds like a good hire.
