Fire Autry

1 - there is a greater than zero % chance that a new coach could come and immediately win a lot of games, even to the point of making the ncaat

2 - there is also a greater than 0% chance that red actually turns things around and makes the tourney this year...and causes many cuse fans' heads to explode

not sure which is greater 1 or 2...im guessing 1...
for me, the biggest reason to make a change is to try and save whatevers left of this season...

the talent is there...and simply managing games better could do wonders...and lets face it...there isnt really much there in terms of scheme that would be lost with a new coach

im surprised how most people seem to think the season is actually literally over...its not. the odds are small but not zero.

for me the only reason to change coaches would be to try and make the tourny this year...you see it in soccer allthe time...when changing coaches midseason is very common. and it usually galvanizes a team, at least in the beginning. there are known coaches who come in to save teams from relegation...not sure who that would be in ncaabb...maybe go with some older coach who has had success but isnt currently coaching...

They're being fans. And they're acting like literally every other fan base on Earth when the team they follow is in the midst of a multi-year run of very poor play.

The "they're just kicking Red when he's down/no need to be so mean" sentiment that some folks are endorsing is silly. It's the usual refrain of those who think they're above the cretins who follow SU sports.

This is how sports work. This is especially how pro sports work, and, like it or not, men's college basketball is a pro sport now.

Meanwhile, Syracuse is such a soft touch community compared to most. People are upset that 20 students chanted "fire Autry". And that a few dozen internet posters keep posting that they want him fired.

Hell, the Dome crowd hasn't even really booed yet. Just a couple instances of a smattering of grumbles.

I've seen full blown toxic situations surrounding a franchise and/or coach. Right now at SU we're at like a 3 or 4 on a 10 point scale. And this fanbase simply isn't capable of hitting a 10.
i get all that

im just saying what is the benefit?

how does it benefit anyone?

like literally asking

i think it is really impacting the players and their performance, personally...and yeah you can say it shouldnt that they are pros or whatever...but they are humans and i think it impacting them on a human scale and killing their motivation and ulitmately performance...being a "lame duck" team cant be fun

not saying fans cant be fans and that it shouldnt be allowed our even that it is wrong...but im also of the mind that i think fans are almost willing it into existence that this team will fail with all of the negative noise around the team

and its not just 10 fans online...go on twitter and look at cuse...its like hundreds of comments against red...and same on this board...the wave is building

and im saying all of this as a fan who didnt want red to stay as coach this season or even last

We're going to find out.

They are going to have to buy out Red's 5-year contract (I hope there are poor performance concessions on that) and then pony up for a new HC and staff... plus a NIL kitty that's acceptable to decent coaching candidates to back a slate of capable players

Big boy pants time...

Agreed.

This next hire will reveal what the AD and University want our men's basketball program to be: a decently compensated but middling P4 program, or a team that can again contend for perennial top 25 status.

If they go cheap or inexperienced, it's the former.

And not that any hire is a sure thing, but I have limited trust in their capability / ability to get this hire right, after how badly they collectively botched the last hiring process.

Also bears mentioning that we're going to have a LOT of competition this offseason, as a lot of coaches are going to be let go from P4 programs. So getting a jump on the competition is going to be key.

I don't know what to tell you. We're all longtime sports fans here. This isn't our first rodeo.

Teams stink for multiple years --> fans get agitated --> fans voice their displeasure on the internet and at the arena/stadium/park.

You're the one expecting Syracuse basketball fans to act completely and utterly different than literally every other fan base on earth?

again...im not expecting anything

i just dont understand the point of basically ruining a season that isnt over yet...the season isnt over...but without the fans it is.

we all know the university isnt going to make a change mdseason...if there was a chance to change the coach now, then it would make more sense...

me personally im waiting until the season is over to make these kinds of posts and voice emotions...that seems like a better time...but im not sayinga nyone can or should do anything or not...

I'm going to change my tune a little bit. After researching the last few college basketball seasons, in-season firings are uncommon. I'm still supportive if something doesn't drastically change in the next two weeks. If we keep Red until the end of the season and he's fired immediately after the ACC tournament we have a month to fill a staff, and back channel for the transfer portal.

The season’s over. This team ain’t going to the tourney. We can pretend and play the “if they beat Duke and UVA and UNC and Louisville” game but there’s nothing that’s occurred over the last 2 2/3rds seasons to think that’s a remote possibility.

There’s nothing to be “ruined” at this point. It’s over, man.

If you want to wait 6 weeks to post your feelings about Autry that’s perfectly fine. Just don’t ask others to do the same.

the season isnt over...its only probably over

He'll land on his feet somewhere as an assistant because he's still a very good recruiter.

I wouldn't count on him resigning tho.

He will want his buyout (as will his agent.) This is life-changing money we're talking about for one person and he will want his promised wedge for the ridiculous 5-year contract he was given.
Wait that's real...that he got a five year deal?

And what do the deep pocketed alumni/boosters want? Are they embarrassed by the downfall of their prestigious institution. A team that they remember were a top 25 ncaa tournament team almost every year.

Not only does Wildhack need to be working the phones figuring out the next coach situation, but he needs to be on the phone right now lining up the funds necessary to hire a top coach and properly fund next year's NIL to get the best transfers out there.
