Interesting thing to keep in mind is that next year there will be 8 more at large bids when the tourney inevitably goes to 76 teams . If Autry was gonna sneak in this year he might’ve kept sneaking in.

Multiple Q3 losses remove the Possibility of getting that at large bid with just an average resume. We’re literally going to have to beat everyone then win in the ACCT.

The silver lining is that Autry either wins out or we get a new coach and he has a much better chance of making the tourney.

Can’t stress enough how important it is for the new coach to make the tourney his rookie year with an expanded field.

Expecting a coach to make the NCAAT in their first year taking over a program that has been in a decade long downturn is probably asking a bit too much, regardless of the expanded field.

I’m okay with that expectation being set for year two.

Kline did a great job putting together this team. The talent is there. The coaching is the problem.

I knew last year was a lost season after the Youngstown State game. And we were 3-0 at that point.

But I was told, repeatedly, and with increasing dismissiveness, that the real issue was NIL.

Red simply isn’t capable of running a P4 program. He has no vision, he’s a disinterested fundraiser, he’s lousy at talent evaluation, he’s bad at preparing his team to play with purpose and focus, and he’s terrible at in game coaching.

I’m not saying that I can deal with Autry any longer but I think this team will still accidentally win more games just on talent alone.

That is precisely what I was counting on. I figured we’d out talent the bottom of the conference, and win a few against the middle. Tourney chances would hinge on stealing one or 2 against the top teams.

Hate to say this but coaching was dubious at best today, probably cost us this game. You challenge that call with George clearly out on the sideline with 1 min left? Whaaaaat? So 30 seconds later you can't challenge the out of bounds play... really poor coaching choices.

I remember all the justifications on retaining Red towards the end of last year - we’d lose recruits, we’d lose Melo’s support and his money, Red just needed time, yadda yadda yadda… It’s been very easy to not really care this year, because once it was clear Red was coming back getting to this point was inevitable. It’s a shame we had to crap away a year on an obviously lost cause for delusional reasons - but for all kinds of entirely political reasons apparently we had to.

The sad thing is leadership at Syracuse has spent 25+ years burning any credibility they have - so there’s a part of me that wouldn’t be shocked if Red was back next year. Him here this year was a stupid decision after numerous asinine decisions over the years, so I have limited confidence people in charge won’t just keep making stupid decisions.
