Fire Autry

ADJW has to write his statement.

I wonder if that statement of his will be quite the doozy that his hiring one was.

"Autry has been exposed to every aspect of the sport, and that uniquely prepares him for the job. “Adrian earned this,” Wildhack said Friday. “Adrian’s not here because he’s an alum, because he played here, because he’s an associate coach here. He’s here because I believe he’s the best candidate to lead this program and sustain the success that coach Boeheim has established over 47 years.”

It’s not the school’s style to fire a coach mid season. Especially with Red being a former player. But I wouldn’t be sad to see if Englestad could try to salvage the season with many quad 1 opportunities left on the schedule.

Red is not going to pull that off. And you’d get a head start on a coaching search. It’s a new environment out there with the portal being a thing and players getting paid. I’m not sure principals like “we don’t fire coaches mid season” holds much water anymore.

Well, there's certainly plenty of substance...or lack thereof. And, I'll take substance over style any day of the week and twice on Sundays!

were they actually chanting it or just texting it to their friends ? cuz the whole chanting thing seems to be a bit ambitious for this generation. requires actual interaction with living beings in close proximity .

In 2012-2013, we went to the final four.

In 2013-2014, we started out 25-0, but finished a disappointing 28-6 [3-6 record down the stretch], losing in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament.

Since then, here are the records for each subsequent year:

2015 - 18-13 [ineligible to play in postseason, due to self-imposed sanctions with pending NCAA investigation]
2016 - 23-14 [*** this included an unexpected Final Four run]
2017 - 19-15 [NIT]
2018 - 23-14 [last four in]
2019 - 20-14 [first round loss]
2020 - 18-14 [COVID year, wouldn't have qualified for NCAAT anyway]
2021 - 18-10 [sweet 16]
2022 - 16-17 [first losing season in 40+ years]
2023 - 17-15 [no postseason]
2024 - 20-12 [no postseason]
2025 - 14-19 [worst season in 40+ years]
  • Four [4] NCAA seasons in the last 11 years
  • 13+ losses in all but one of those 11 years
  • Two losing seasons, which hadn't happened in 4+ decades
  • Four [4] consecutive years of not making any postseason tournament
And if all of that weren't bad enough, here are the conference records over that same span of time, all in the ACC:

2015 - 9-9
2016 - 9-9
2017 - 10-8
2018 - 8-10
2019 - 10-8
2020 - 10-10
2021 - 9-7
2022 - 9-11
2023 - 10-10
2024 - 11-9
2025 - 7-13
  • Four [4] losing records in ACC conference play, out of 11 seasons
  • Five [5] double digit loss conference seasons out of 11
  • 102 wins against 104 losses -- overall losing record in conference

Really, the decline was not just steady, it was a precipitous dip in overall program performance that began in the 2014-2015 season, and we've been mired in that rut ever since.

The conference schedule failures alone should have been a massive red flag to the fanbase, a subset of whom seemed content to let JB continue for as long as he wanted to DESPITE the decline.

Hiring one of the architects of this decline to replace JB was a massive strategic blunder.

Great post!

And, relative to the 2016 unexpected FF run, most here, including many national pundits, believed that our game against Pitt in the ACC Tourney was a tourney play-in game with the loser out. Well, we lost, and that was the 3rd time that season to a bubble Pitt team to boot. The year of the leaked bracket.

Your last sentence, IMO, was considerably foreseeable as well. A first time/greenhorn head coach continuity hire after being part of the steady period of decline preceding it. Also, IMO, the end result again being as foreseeable as what some of us here believed would be the same plight as what NIL has turned the revenue sports into nowadays.

It's amazing that we've never had a record better than 2 games above .500 in the ACC.

Here's another amazing fact; in our entire duration to date of being in the ACC, we've never won more than one consecutive game in the ACC Tournament. Therefore, based upon where we have typically been seeded, never yet to sniff a conference tournament semi-final, let alone a final.

I don't do hindsight well, what with it being 20/20 and all. Honestly I also agreed w/ the Red hire as did most of us, if I recall correctly.
That being said, never ashamed to claim a mea culpa, admit I was wrong, and keep it moving. Time for him to go. JMHO

Well, of course, hindsight is always 20/20, so I don't think anyone of us do it well. ;)

That being said, I was generally referring to the full of malarkey garbage specifically spewed by Wildhack. Which, I'd have to imagine he was the genuine author of such language and didn't have that specifically written for him/mandated as the actual hiring of Autry has been alleged.

Lies, lies, and more lies. Did AI write this?

I and many others here wanted a full, outside search to pick the most qualified coach.

Yes, there were a few who felt that way but the majority, including myself, wanted a "Syracuse man", one of the family, former player, and loyal AC to the HOF former HC, to take the reins and build on the legacy.
It was a nice fantasy while it lasted. :(

If you seriously attempting to remove Coach Autry, then

Write to the AD
Write to The Chancellor
Write to the Board of Trustees

These are the only things that work!

The reality is a new coach will lead to huge roster turnover. If we do not pony up big money for a name brand guy, it is going to take a few years to get the roster built back up. Red needs to be fired, but I am not expecting this to be a quick turnaround. Two or three years before were relevant again, and that depends on who we hire. I do not see this being a quick fix.
Yeah it could be a long time. Indiana turned into a football school and their basketball program never fully recovered
